Dancing with the birds

Théatre des Hivernales
Yesterday I saw a show that delighted me: Confidences from the birds, summer migration.
The only thing I knew about it was that it was a ballet where birds and dancers interact. Real birds. It was magic. In turn jays, crows, magpies, starlings and parrots fly and move around the dancers, together composing scenes of great beauty. The music, very pure, is inspired by bird songs and the noises of the forest. The show takes us to a dreamworld where the alliance between man and nature has finally been achieved. It's not only beautiful, it is an inspiration. You leave the theatre filled with a sense of peace and joy. A must-see if you happen to be around Avignon.
Theatre des Hivernales, 10-26 July 2008 (except 15 and 20 July) at 10:00 a.m. Duration 50 minutes, bookings on 04 90 82 33 12 (full details here). The show is the result of several years of mutual impregnation between birds and dancers under the leadership of Luc Petton, a choregrapher who has a passion for birds.
Festival d'Avignon 2008 - Les Hivernales.

Bon WE

Happy to see that you found something to see and listen to, which you enjoyed (not like the "Inferno"! At least one "show" every day (not counting what you find in the streets)? I guess one of the difficulties is to choose!

I have no problems with nude people or other animals, including birds. The problem I have is with who decided what is fitting and not. To answer your question about your post, I think it is perfectly normal for anyone to see a nude person, so one or two dancing with birds should not be odd but it is.

Dancing with birds. How original and creative. Sounds like something that Cirque du Soleil should do.

Nathalie, I appreciate and agree with the comment that you left on my Daily Photo site for Costa Rica and want to update you that I can now identify the type of flower that I posted on July 3 and that you commented that I should add the name of the flower. It is a cana lily, which Wikipedia says is not a true lily. It is native to the Western Hemisphere, from the southern U.S. to northern Argentina.

I love the photos on your site. Avignon is a wonderful place. My wife and I wish we could have spent more time there during our one visit, while we were on our honeymoon in Monaco in 2002

The birds must have imprinted on the humans and been hand-raised. There is no way that it could be done with wild birds I don't think. I can't stand the thought of cages for birds. Mine are all free to come and go; as are my cats BTW.
This is a great photo Nathalie - body paint and suspenders; very cleverly done. I think I would have enjoyed the show nonetheless.

Wow, one can only hope they might consider an international tour! I'm sure that would be difficult for the avian performers to handle well, though. Just transporting my mom's canary with her a plane, the security inspectors insisted I take it from the travel carrier and hand hold it through the inspection gate. I kept thinking, "What if it escapes my hand?"
Wonderful post, Nathalie. The dreamlike quality comes through.

well I do have photos on my blog of wild bords sitting on my hands, but dancing nude with them I will leave to others. It's strangely beautiful. Certainly a talking point imag you have captured.

I love ballet, but then I grew up with a professional dancer (my sis) in the house. I dig birds too. Actually, just starting to study various birds. I'd certainly pay to see this show if only for a few moments of peace and joy. Clever theater. I applaud!

Nathalie,
I love the idea of ballet and the birds all around. I am wondering how they are trained. Sounds much more enjoyable than the Inferno that you shared with us.

There is a most lyrical quality to this, Nathalie. Was the music specially composed for the dance or did they use the likes of Resphigi? In your image, the human and the bird are clothed in the same colours. It is entrancing that the birds you show are simple, ordinary and apparently everyday types. I am entranced. I also feel that you are very lucky to have taken such an image - we would have been severely roused upon in Australia!

Oh wow, this is one ballet that even my husband would consent to coming with me. Sounds absolutely awe-inspiring and magical.
