It's always a joy when bloggers meet and move from virtual friendships to real life ones. That's what happened when I visited Jilly of Menton Daily Photo last weekend. We got along so well you would have thought we'd known each other for years - which in a way was the case even if only through our blogs. She took me to the lovely hilltop village of Gorbio. Jilly is becoming a master at portraits (just see this one) so my top photo is a tribute to her style which I so admire. Behind this man is the beautifully textured trunk of the massive elm (not olive tree) that welcomes visitors on the village square. I like the strength that both man and tree seem to have.C'est toujours une joie quand les blogueurs se rencontrent et passent de l'amitié virtuelle au contact réel. C'est ce qui m'est arrivé le week-end dernier quand j'ai rendu visite à Jilly de Menton Daily Photo. Ensemble nous avons arpenté le vieux village de Gorbio. Nous nous sommes si bien entendues qu'on aurait pu penser qu'on se connaissait depuis des années, ce qui d'une certaine façon était vrai - par blogs interposés. Jilly est en train de passer maître dans l'art du portrait (voir exemple ici) : ma photo ci-dessus est un "à la manière de..." qui lui rend hommage. Derrière cet homme, le tronc noueux du très vieil orme (et non pas olivier) qui accueille les visiteurs sur la place du village. J'aime la solidité qu'ils paraissent avoir tous les deux.
Wish I could have joined you on your trip to Menton!! I love this city. It is so funny but the picture of the man by the olive tree looks just like my Father in Law from Provence!

j'aime beaucoup ta deuxième photo, sans doute parce qu'on y voit la mer et que ce ciel bleu me remonte un peu la pendule, moi qui vois tomber de la neige et de la pluie depuis des mois. Aujourd'hui c'est la pluie qui s'y met, hier en montagne, c'était la neige. Tiens, j'aspire à du ciel bleu, à des températures plus clémentes. Il va falloir que le printemps arrive maintenant, c'est un ordre.

ReplyDeleteAdam, the olive tree in Gorbio was planted in 1713 and it's a hollow tree. I plan on putting a photo of it on Menton Daily Photo, showing the hollow part at some time in the future. It's amazing, being so old, and hollow, yet comes into full leaf each spring.

L'année dernière, à Paris, j'ai rencontré une petite Portuguaise toute mignonne, Lyliane et Peter.
Lyliane veut venir me voir chez moi au printemps et Peter a accepté de venir avec elle. C'est génial ! Ils sont formidables tous les deux !
Gprbio a l'air d'être un très joli village de ce que j'ai pu en voir chez MB.

Jilly corrected me on the fact that the tree was a very old elm, not an olive tree. My apologies to the inhabitants of Gorbio who are rightly proud of their rare tree.
