Inside the cathedral

Cathédrale Notre Dame des Doms, Avignon

Tomorrow on Ascension Thursday there will be a mass at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Doms cathedral. Look how worn out the stone floor is. Between christenings, weddings, funerals, discreet week day services, grand Sunday masses, processions and special celebrations I wonder how many thousands of faithful have come here to worship over the centuries ?

  1. Cheers, Nathalie. This high contrast photo is perfect, with the person in silhouette with sun flaring, and the detail of the worn flooring. Excellent!

  7. Siddartha Joshi - no, it isn't someone I know. I took several shots as people entered and exited the church until I got a shot with someone positioned exactly right. Looking at it now though, I find the man has a military look which makes me feel somewhat uneasy.

  14. The number would be uncountable. Faith is a powerful draw, although there are others at least as important. You might be able to sell this photo as a poster for a Stephen King movie.

Yes indeed, a place much prayed in.

Happy Ascension Day to you, Nathalie, from Jerusalem! Bonne fête.
