Cathédrale Notre Dame des Doms, Avignon
Tomorrow on Ascension Thursday there will be a mass at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Doms cathedral. Look how worn out the stone floor is. Between christenings, weddings, funerals, discreet week day services, grand Sunday masses, processions and special celebrations I wonder how many thousands of faithful have come here to worship over the centuries ?
Cheers, Nathalie. This high contrast photo is perfect, with the person in silhouette with sun flaring, and the detail of the worn flooring. Excellent!
ReplyDeleteNice! this is a cool pic Nathalie...is this someone you know?
The shot was really stunning. The contrast effect of the image gives so much detail.

Siddartha Joshi - no, it isn't someone I know. I took several shots as people entered and exited the church until I got a shot with someone positioned exactly right. Looking at it now though, I find the man has a military look which makes me feel somewhat uneasy.
ReplyDeletejoli clair obscur :)
ReplyDeleteMany tens of thousands, I'm sure. What a beautiful, evocative photograph.
ReplyDeleteCe qui me semble peu pourtant...
La lumière comme personnage... Bravo!
ReplyDeleteVery atmospheric, Nathalie...if that floor could talk!
ReplyDeleteThe number would be uncountable. Faith is a powerful draw, although there are others at least as important. You might be able to sell this photo as a poster for a Stephen King movie.
ReplyDeleteOh what a stunning photo!
ReplyDeleteYes indeed, a place much prayed in.
Happy Ascension Day to you, Nathalie, from Jerusalem! Bonne fête.
Wonderfully dramatic photograph. Full of textures and atmosphere.
ReplyDeleteI just love the light on the floor. Fantastic!
