With so much going on during the Festival, it's hard to be noticed sometimes. A white statue stood proudly at the bottom of the stairs leading to the Popes' Palace entrance but it was a quiet spot. Most of the pedestrian traffic was further down where jugglers, dancers and other human statues were already competing for attention. This one hardly got noticed and it's a defeated Roman emperor that I saw a little while later.Il se passe tant de choses sur la place du palais pendant le Festival que certains ont du mal à trouver leur public. Au pied des escaliers qui mènent au palais, un statue blanche posait fièrement en toge. Mais le gros du trafic piéton passait plus bas sur la place, où se trouvaient déja des danseurs, des jongleurs et d'autres statues immobiles. La concurrence était rude et je n'ai vu personne s'intéresser à celle-ci. Quand je suis repassée, l'empereur romain déchu baissait la tête...

ReplyDeleteUselaine, of course you can move to any spot you like... provided it's not already taken. And there was plethora of other 'statues' closer to the main entrance to the square, hence his choice of this spot... which proved unsuccessful. People tended to walk in the shade further to the left, not there where the sun was harsh.
ReplyDeleteUselaine, bien sûr chacun peut choisir le spot de son choix... à condition qu'il ne soit pas déjà pris. Il y avait déjà pléthore de 'statues' plus bas sur la place, d'où son choix de cet emplacement, qui s'est révélé infructueux. Les gens marchaient à l'ombre des arbres bien plus à gauche, pas en plein soleil là où il était !
