Which side up?

Bords du Rhône, allées de l'oulleOn the Rhone, green markers are to be left on the port side as you sail downstream.
Which side is up is yet another matter.

Sur le Rhône les marques vertes doivent être laissées à bâbord quand on descend vers la mer.
 Où est le haut, où est le bas, ça c'est encore un autre sujet.

    PORT wine is RED and is best LEFT well alone.

    I believe there's a similar one for starboard, but it doesn't trip off the tongue quite so lightly....

    Yes jb, great way to remember the rules!

    Port/red/left is correct when you approach the coast coming from the ocean. Of course when you exit a river towards the sea it all works the other way round.

    And then it's a whole different kettle of fish when you live in America where Red Right Returning becomes the rule!!!

    Cela doit être comme dans les ports, vert à bâbord et rouge à tribord quand on quitte le port et le contraire quand on entre.
    J'ai mal au coeur en regardant ta photo.
