Simply beautiful. Impressionist photography. Would love to see what Monet would have done with this. And the subtle reflections in the water... ok, I'm in heaven, ready to dive right in... :-)
Venice indeed. It reminds me of all those Canalettos of the Grand Lagoon and Piazza San Marco sold to wealthy young Englishmen on the grand tour. We don't know this town - have to look it up.
Martigues is located on the Etang de Berre northwest of Marseille - most of the scenery around this huge body of water is spoiled by oil refineries and a variety of industrial complexes but the tiny fishermen's village of Martigues has retained much of its old world charm. I find the term "Venice of Provence" quite usurpated since there are hardly more than a couple of canals (nothing in the way of scale compared to Venice) but whatever there is is full of charm, as shown in my photo. We spent a great weekend there exploring the nearby beaches of La Couronne, Sausset-les-Pins and Carry-le-Rouet.
@ Jack - the puffy clouds were the advance warning of stormy weather which arrived during the following night. We had a spectacular storm this morning with lightning, roaring thunder and pouring rain, the lot!
Very pretty view of the city. The sky looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThat looks terrific. The puffy clouds are an extra treat.
