A hike in the snow

The island of Tenerife in the Canary islands was my holiday destination last week. Here are a couple of views of the fantastic hike we did inside the caldeira of the Teide, the 3700 metre volcanic peak that dominates the island. It had snowed the weekend before and the scenery was amazing.

Tilia avait trouvé, c'est bien à Tenerife aux îles Canaries que j'étais la semaine dernière. Voici quelques vues de la randonnée magique que nous avons faite dans la caldeira du Teide, le volcan qui culmine à 3700 mètres au centre de l'île. Avec la neige tombée le week-end précédent, les paysages étaient sublimes.

    A hike like that would appeal to me tremendously. I'm assuming it's because of the altitude that there's snow.

    There's no snow on the coast cause Tenerife is located at the same latitude as southern Morocco. But with an altitude of over 12,000 feet, the Teide does get snow (in winter only) when the rest of the island gets rain. When we were there the first week, there was very little snow up there but they had a big snow storm at the weekend so we decided to go back up there to see it. We weren't disappointed, it was spectacular!

    Quite amazing. These islands are near the southern end of Morocco and here is all this snow.

    Bob, you do find snow in the Atlas, which is Morocco's largest mountain range, at the same latitude again.

    Sounds fantastic, especially to this Northerner longing for sun. Was it specifically a walking holiday you were on?
