Inside the Popes Palace yesterday afternoon, conference on "Beyond GDP - how can we integrate culture?". Speaking here is Paul Andreu (France) giving his point of view as an architect. Can architecture create happiness? Certainly not he said but it can contribute to quality of life and the very interesting work produced by architects around the "grand Paris" project is testimony to this. However when asked to summarize his view in the wrap-up part of the conference, Paul Andreu said "I only have one thing to say: we need time". What an unhelpful thing to say : unfortunately time is precisely what our planet doesn't have. J'ai trouvé cette conclusion diablement décevante : le temps est précisément ce dont notre planète manque. Il faut réfléchir vite !

The only time left is for creating efficiencies in all aspects of society.
Procrastination is of little assistance when economies fail.
The architecture of yesteryear and modern indulgences will need to give way to greater efficiencies. Integrating culture with domestic production is not something that time will resolve. Time is the oppressor, - things decay with time. They atrophy.
M. Andreu may not recall when he had a full head of hair but in the elapsed time he may have come up with a solution.
He should have said, "I only have one thing to say: we have not the time !"

Ravie de voir qu'Avignon a fait une partie des réponses à ma place. Oui Anne, difficile de voir les intervenants en direct sans se tordre le cou, la disposition de la salle est assez étonnante. La réponse vient sous forme d'écrans géants identiques à celui qu'on voit ici, 3 de chaque côté sur toute la longueur de la salle.

ReplyDeleteJ'ai été très déçue par son format:
Durée prévue : 45 minutes.
Autour de John Thackara, directeur de Doors of Perception (UK) on a réuni quatre intervenants : Paul Andreu, architecte (France), Pier-Carol Padoan, secrétaire général adjoint de l'OCDE (Italie), Pierre Louette, PDG de l'Agence France Presse et Umaïr Haque, Direct de Havas Media Lab à Londres.
Chacun a parlé 6-8 minutes puis a eu une minute pour donner une conclusion.
Pas d'échange entre eux, pas de questions du public, pas de débat. Aucune interaction.
Les milieux dans lesquels chacun évolue et les problématiques sur lesquelles il travaille sont si différentes que j'ai trouvé bien difficile de faire le lien entre leurs présentations respectives. Le tout laissait un curieux goût de disparate manquant de sens.
Mais peut-être que l'ensemble des débats sur les deux jours permettait de créer le sens qui ici faisait défaut ?
Pour répondre directement à ta question, bv, j'ai eu le sentiment que l'intérêt majeur (et peut-être unique) de ce type de forum est d'aider au "networking". Le format des conférences donne juste à chaque intervenant le temps de se présenter et de dire sur quelles problématiques il travaille. A ceux que ça intéresse de les contacter ensuite 'hors antenne' et de créer des liens pour aller plus loin.
Ajoutons qu'il y avait 40 minutes de retard sur le programme. Ce retard a sans aucun doute étriqué cette conférence mais elle a aussi bousculé la suivante : l'intervenant (Vincent Fosty, INEUM Consulting) devait passer un film puis présenter ses conclusions. Mais il avait un TGV à prendre alors il a livré ses conclusions AVANT que le film ne soit projeté puis s'est sauvé prendre son train. La perte de sens était considérable. J'ai trouvé que l'approche laxiste des horaires qui caractérise les réunions à la française trouvait là ses limites.

pas étonnant que le format "chacun-parle-5mn" soit déceptif, c'est la plaie de ces forums pontifiants ou personne n'écoute le voisin et chaque speaker vient vendre sa sauce et s'en va. heureusement les participants se rattrapent effectivement sur le networking mais quel gâchis rapport à la qualité des intervenants...
je ne comprends pas qu'un forum tout neuf comme celui-ci ne soit pas un peu plus créatif...
les formats de demain sont plutôt dans la lignée de TED http://www.ted.com excellent forum remue méninges dont je t'ai je crois déjà parlé. ça vient des US, encore eux, mais ça décoiffe ;-)
Effectivement cela ressemble à des conférences "prises de contact." Mais il est bien de savoir qu'il y a du monde qui y pense.
