Dentelles de Montmirail, Provence
A beautiful hike last Saturday. The weather was as good as it gets, sunny but not too hot. The rugged peaks you see here are the Dentelles de Montmirail, the large mountain in the background is Mount Ventoux. The hike started and finished in the wine-makers' village of
Gigondas and of course a nice bottle of local wine was packed in our backpack for our picnic lunch : French
art de vivre at its best!
Some vines were already bare, some others still wore beautiful golden leaves.
Certaines vignes étaient déjà nues, d'autres arboraient encore un superbe feuillage doré.
Spectacular vistas Nathalie, it looks to be a 'challenging' yet very rewarding trek..and of course there's the wine at the end..!!
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, I sure would have enjoyed this hike!!!
ReplyDeleteA fabulous area to be walking Nathalie - I once walked from Caromb to Le Barroux and we looked out onto this wonderful jagged range.

Am envious, even if that's a minor sin, am very envious !
Oh my, a beautiful hike indeed!
What fabulous rocky crests. Does "Dentelles" translate as teeth? They certainly resemble a ragged bite.
ReplyDeleteDianne - A hike from Caromb to Le Barroux would indeed have given you great views over these hills. I'm so glad you know this place!
ReplyDeleteLady M. - Good question, I should have translated that. Dentelles means "lace". I suppose it reflects the idea of intricate lace work.
J'aime beaucoup le dernier cliché...

Quels tresors de paysages! A savouver sans moderation.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great hike
Merci.
ReplyDeleteIf you are hiking you would certainly want to finish that bottle of wine to lighten your back pack.
ReplyDeleteWe have the good fortune of being able to see the Dentelles just a short distance away from our bedroom terrace in Sablet.
ReplyDeleteDave, the five of us had no problem at all finishing off that bottle of red in order to travel light :)
ReplyDeleteIt just looks spectacular. I would love to hike there.
Go Nathalie, spectacular landscapes!!
ReplyDeleteFive on one bottle is not much, perhaps not enough? I guess the view was enough to make you make feel a bit "merry"! :-)
ReplyDeleteI was blown off these guys one time. The mistral hit whilst we were walking on the alpilles. It was pretty scary. Your pics are beautiful.. Carla
