Marché à la Brocante, Villeneuve-lèz-AvignonLast Saturday our sketch crawl group met at the Saturday antiques market in Villeneuve-lèz-Avignon. Sketching around the market was gorgeous fun. Here's a fun portrait fellow sketcher Marie-France did : with their round bellies she called them 'the prosperous antique dealers'. A while later I photographed one of them, seated. You might recognise his hat, moustache and yellow shirt...

Her sketches are very good. She captures the essence of these men with just a few strokes of a pen for each antiques dealer.
Quels beaux portraits!
I wish I had such talent but my eye-hand coordination is weak. It's a way to exceed the literalness of the lens and show a more personal impression.
Your bottom picture reminds me of a CDP from Cleveland that's been silent almost four years, although you can still find it online. It was wan on my favorites. It was done by a Vietnamese man who called himself iBlowfish. The images were lonely, mostly B&W and brilliantly executed. He was one of the few CDPBs (yours, of course, being among the elect) that made Blog Of Note.
Such talent in your group, not least you, of course. I love that you photographed one of the men who had been sketched. Just rounds (!) out the story nicely.
Super cool sketch! The puffer fish reminds me of one I found dead at a beach in Ecuador.
Yes Yeandler the puffer fish was for sale. A great dust catcher to have on a side table! :)
Le diodon est genial!
PS - you might find that there wasn't much of a crowd at the market. That's because it was still fairly early, the crowds arrived later. We got in fairly early (alright, 9:30 AM) and glad we did: it gets harder to sketch with too many people passing in front of you.
Thank you for taking us along to this market and for showing us those beautiful sketches, too.
