Still lost, found soon

Collection LambertLast Saturday and Sunday were European Heritage Days. A large number of museums, castles or state owned buildings were open to the public for free and I visited a number of places over the weekend. Collection Lambert is a private modern art museum but they nevertheless participate in the scheme by offering access for one euro. I went there to see the Barcelo exhibition but in the staircase got entrenched into an amazing piece : "Still lost, found soon", lettering on mirrors artwork by Douglas Gordon, 2008. The artist, born in Scotland in 1966, lives and works in Glasgow, New York and Berlin. Getting lost in this complex mirror game was as much fun as at the fun fair!

Ce weekend c'était les journées européennes du patrimoine où un immense choix de musées et d'édifices publics étaient ouverts au public. J'en ai profité pour visiter plusieurs lieux. La Collection Lambert, le musée d'art moderne d'Avignon, est un musée privé mais qui participe néanmoins à l'événement en offrant l'entrée pour un euro. J'y ai vu l'expo Barcelo mais j'ai commencé par me perdre dans l'escalier avec "Still lost, found soon" (encore perdu, bientôt retrouvé) - oeuvre de lettrage sur miroirs de Douglas Gordon, 2008. L'artiste né en Ecosse en 1966 vit et travaille à New York, Glasgow et Berlin. Je me suis plongée dans ce jeu de miroirs avec autant de plaisir qu'à la fête foraine.

Collection Lambert

At the Lambert Collection, Avignon's contemporary art gallery, birds fly freely. You can catch a glimpse of their flight through the glass doors. (I have a question to you: The first photo is a tight crop of the second one. Was it worth showing or was the larger view enough? I like the pattern drawn by the sun on the curtain)

A la Collection Lambert, la galerie d'art contemporain d'Avignon, les oiseaux volent librement dans le grand hall. On les devine dès l'entrée. (J'ai une question: ma première photo est un détail de la seconde. Valait-elle la peine d'être montrée ou est-ce que le plan large suffisait ? J'aime les motifs dessinés par le soleil sur le rideau...)

Art or what?

Avignon's museum of modern art, the Collection Lambert, currently displays a rather intriguing work of art on its outside wall along boulevard Raspail . It reads Priez comme nous - pray like us.
On my photo, the shadows of the plane trees across the street add a whole new dimension to the piece, but do nothing to help understand it. What cryptic message is it supposed to convey? As is the rule with conceptual art, the author probably produced a lengthy paper destined to enlighten our souls as to the depth and breadth of the message, but I haven't read it. Would you like to try and make up your own? It could be fun!

La Collection Lambert, musée d'art moderne d'Avignon, expose actuellement sur sa façade sud, côté boulevard Raspail, cette oeuvre où l'on peut lire en dessous d'un oeil ouvert, les mots Priez Comme Nous.
Sur ma photo, l'ombre des platanes nus ajoute une nouvelle dimension au tableau mais n'en éclaire pas le sens. Que faut-il en penser ? Comme il est de règle dans l'art conceptuel, l'auteur a probablement écrit un long papier pour éclairer nos pauvres âmes sur la profondeur et la dimension de l'oeuvre, mais moi je n'ai pas la clé. Et si nous tentions de l'inventer ? Soyez créatifs, ça pourrait être amusant !
