Mixed weather

The weather has been fairly unstable recently. With an unpredictable mix of blue and clouds, showers and thunderstorms, you never know what the day will bring. Le temps est perturbé depuis quelques temps. Entre le bleu, les nuages, les averses et les orages on ne sait jamais comment ça va tourner. Voilà ce que ça donne pour moi, sur la route de la Roque-Alric. Bons baisers de juin !!?!

This morning 9:00 am

A picture of my wisteria taken half an hour ago. You've probably seen more spectacular: the flowers are neither huge or extremely numerous, no dramatic explosion of purples and mauves, but to me it means a lot: I planted this wisteria 2 years ago and it's a joy to see it coming along so nicely. I feel grateful for mother nature's generosity.

Une photo de ma glycine prise il y a une demi-heure. Vous avez certainement déjà vu plus spectaculaire : les grappes de fleurs ne sont ni énormes ni extrêmement nombreuses, pas d'explosion fabuleuse de violets et de mauves, mais pour moi c'est une joie. J'ai planté cette glycine il y a deux ans et je suis ravie de la voir grandir si joliment. Merci dame nature, vous êtes bien généreuse.

Aubune in grey

Notre Dame d'Aubune, Beaumes de Venise
From the almost naked vineyards emerges the now familiar church spike of the little chapel of Notre Dame d'Aubune. We've had more rain this autumn than I can ever remember and it's raining again today. Thick clay clings to your boots if you attempt to go for a walk. This particular plot of vine was replanted a couple of years ago - notice how the new pickets are aluminum instead of wood as they used to be.

D'entre les pieds de vignes maintenant presque nus émerge la silhouette familière de la chapelle de Notre Dame d'Aubune. Du plus loin que je me souvienne, on n'a jamais eu autant de pluie en automne que cette année; il pleut à nouveau aujourd'hui. La glaise lourde vous colle aux semelles si vous essayez d'aller faire un tour. Ce vignoble a été replanté il y a deux ans, notez comme les nuveaux piquets sont en aluminium et non plus en bois comme autrefois.

Sponsored flight

In this season we often see paragliders flying over our place.  The take-off site is up the hill above Beaumes-de-Venise near the St Hilaire chapel and the landing field is in the plains below, on a strip of grass among the vineyards.This one seemed to be looking straight down at me when I took his picture. Follow him where he lands and you'll find the Balma Venitia winery where you'll be able to buy the muscat the village is famous for. Unfortunately the Balma Venitia website doesn't appear to have an English-speaking version.

De notre jardin en cette saison on voit souvent voler des parapentistes. Ils décollent du haut de la colline de Beaumes-de-Venise près de la chapelle St Hilaire et atterrissent dans un champ en jachère au milieu des vignes, à quelques encablures de la cave des Vignerons de Balma Venitia. Celui-ci semblait me regarder quand je l'ai photographié par en-dessous. Suivez-le jusqu'à l'atterrissage et vous trouverez la cave où vous pourrez déguster et acheter le vin muscat pour lequel le village est célèbre.

Two views from home on a day quite typical of the type of weather we've had lately: swift moves from rain to shine. The roofs to the left belong to the village of Aubignan. Deux vues prises depuis notre terrasse lors d'une journée assez typique du temps que nous avons eu tous ces derniers temps, succession rapide de soleil et de pluie. Un jour de pluie, un jour de mistral et ça repart ! Les toits qu'on voit à gauche sur la photo du haut sont ceux du village d'Aubignan. Au fond, les monts du Vaucluse et quelque part à la limite entre ombre et soleil, Carpentras.

Je photographiais les premières pousses vertes dans les vignes de la plaine de Pujaut... quand est survenu un lâcher de parachutistes. Skydive Pujaut est un club de chute libre très actif.

I was photographing the first green leaves in the vineyards in the plains below the village of Pujaut... when a bunch of parachutes appeared in the sky. Skydive Pujaut is a very active skydiving club.

Elagage

These tall plane trees get trimmed approximately every three years - see here the photos I took in January 2008.
