I hadn't taken pictures of the pont d'Avignon in ages. On Sunday, the water levels weres high and the afternoon light spectacular. I  decided that keeping obvious my collage of two images could be fun.

Ca faisait une éternité que je n'avais pas photographié le pont St Bénézet. Dimanche, l'eau était haute et la lumière de fin de journée spectaculaire. J'ai décidé de garder très apparent mon collage de deux photos.

After the flood, the big clean up. On Saturday afternoon the Rhone reached a peak level of 5.30 meters which flooded the road you see here at the foot of the pont d'Avignon. The water dropped back to 4.60 on Sunday when I took these photos. City council employees were busy cleaning the silt on the road before reopening it to traffic. In the mean time visitors could enjoy walking around with no cars but I'm sorry that I wasn't there yesterday, it would have been spectacular : most of the grassy areas you see in the bottom image were under water.

Après la crue, le grand nettoyage. Samedi après-midi le Rhône est monté jusqu'à une cote de 5,30 mètres, ce qui a inondé les allées de l'Oulle. Le niveau était déjà redescendu à 4,60 m dimanche quand j'ai pris ces photos. Les employés municipaux s'activaient à nettoyer la boue de la route avant de la rouvrir à la circulation. En attendant, on pouvait s'offrir le luxe de s'y promener sans voitures. Je regrette quand même de ne pas avoir été là hier, les images auraient été spectaculaires :  la plupart des zones herbeuses qu'on voit dans l'image du bas étaient sous l'eau.
