Radis multicolores

Multi-coloured radishes at the Velleron farmers' market. I'd never seen anything like it before. At €1,50 a bunch, would you buy them? Alternatively, asparagus were €3.50 a bunch (approx 500 grams). The photo goes back to May - the asparagus season is pretty much over now.

Portraits at the flea market

Practicing street photography at the flea market in Carpentras, holding my camera at waist level. I can't resist showing these beautiful characters.

Sunday flea market in Carpentras

Sunday flea market in Carpentras. We were there last Sunday at 9.30, expecting the market to be in full swing and thinking we'd missed the best opportunities which, as everyone knows, can be had at 6.00 am at the back of the truck, but we were wrong: merchants were just starting to set up. How come so late, we asked one of them? He explained that this particular market, unlike most others, requires merchants to be there at 6.00 for placement but forbids them to unload their trucks before 9.30 (10.00 am in winter), and the rule is strictly enforced. He wasn't sure why; perhaps in order to avoid noise disturbances to the neighbourhood? Anyway by walking slowly we saw the stalls fill up. We bought a few books and had a good time. Went home for lunch with the first strawberries of the season.

L'Isle sur la SorgueA sunny display at the flea market in l'Isle sur Sorgue last Sunday afternoon. On other occasions this blurry photo would have been rejected but in fact it was intentional : this is another of my drive-by experiments (no no I wasn't driving!). The effect is exactly what I was after, somewhat similar to a pastel or watercolour painting with a soft blur. Does it work for you?

Marché du dimanche à Coustellet (84)Cherries are all over the markets, 3 to 4 euros per kilo, often a bit small in size.
