Street art

Rue de la masse, AvignonI'm amazed to see how much street art popped up during the festival. Most of it is in the form of paper collages which will naturally fall off the walls after a few months. While I imagine most of it will soon be removed by street cleaners anyway, I enjoy discovering a variety of styles. I'd certainly never seen anything like this one before.

The paper collages sound a far better idea than paint - I'm wondering how the local community feel about this form of graffiti -
acceptable ou non?

When I was in Avignon 3 - 4 years ago after the festival, I was astonished at how much graffiti was there. I don't know how to stop it . . .

Certainly better this way than with paint. It bothers me that all the wall painters from Banksy to the crudest tagger impost their taste unbidden upon the public and cause expense to the building owner. Besides, ephemeral art, here today and gone tomorrow, has its own attraction.

In Valparaiso, Chile, the street art is so extensive and impressive that they call it their open air museum and it has become a major tourist attraction. My wife and I could return there for days taking photos.

The fact that most of it will wash away or be removed suits me just fine. This is however, very intriguing and different!
