J'avais tort. Ali a simplement choisi de voir grand. Grandiose même. Bravo Ali !

Popes Palace square last Wednesday - the afternoon was bright and sunny. As I was taking this photo my eyes were drawn to fish scale designs in the fine gravel below. Ali's work for sure! Who is Ali ? A self-taught artist who used to rake the gravel into a variety of designs in a public garden round the back of the Popes Palace: see my previous posts about him here and there. I noticed recently that he had deserted the site and I was worried. I needn't be. Now I understand : he's found a larger setting for his work. Grand. Go Ali!

Raking the patterns so artistically is a wonderful gift to those fortunate to pass by.

Gorgeous shots of sky and those Zen-like patterns.

Immediately I thought of the monks shaping mandalas in the sand. There is something very spiritual about creating art left to the whimsy of the next breezes. Lovely photo!

Showing so many paths in life to choose....love this artist's work and Ali moved on to share and grow. Think of yourself as a painter of light.

So glad he's still making the designs and that you found them again.

What a wonderful setting and the open space is superb. I think I'd be a bit upset if I had just laboured over raking all of that, only to have people walk all over it! I really do have to visit Avignon.
