Festival des Globe Trotters

Rue des Teinturiers, Avignon
What are you doing this weekend? Mine will be full-on : I'll be presenting the 16th Avignon Globe Trotters festival over 3 days Friday, Saturday and Sunday 22nd, 23rd and 24th March 2013. These pictures of an Indian dance performance were taken at last year's edition.  The festival is dedicated to all forms of alternative travel : this year's selection of films will take us pedaling around Bengladesh in a rickshaw, diving under the ice of the North Pole, sharing the life of the Himbas tribe in Namibia, hitch-hiking from Paris to Moscow, riding across Africa on a tandem, walking the St James Way, taking our sketch book around the fantastic landscapes of Yemen or Algeria and much more. After each film, the adventurous travellers come on stage to answer questions from the audience and that's where I come in - I'll be there to facilitate the debate. For me and all spectactors it's a wonderful opportunity to discover amazing parts of the world and meet remarkable people. The festival also includes travel photo exhibitions, conferences, workshops and a photo contest : this year's theme is "the art of siesta" - would you have a photo in your archives that fits the bill? If so, don't hesitate to leave a link to it in the comments.
It's my fourth consecutive year of involvment in the festival and I'm loving it. Find the full program here and watch the teaser here (worth watching, the images are fantastic!)

That sounds fascinating, or would be if my French were better. We have a Festival of Nations, with an emphasis on food and performing arts. The travel angle would make a great difference.

I wouldn't hitchhike from Paris to Moscow if there a pot of gold at the end of that rainbow.
