February Theme Day: What I would miss

The first day of each month is Theme Day for the City Daily Photo community. What would I miss if I left Avignon? Its bridge of course, the famous Pont d'Avignon, and its river, the Rhone. A river gives any city a meaning, purpose and sense of direction that no crossroads could. Water is photogenic and forces nature's way into town. Our 13th century bridge, or the 4 arches left of it out of the original 24, tells of the city's long-standing history - even better when you're lucky enough to catch it under the rising moon as I did this January. See more theme day entries here. Go on, go see the world!

It is, after all, a beautiful structure. And you've photographed it magnificently. And different, each time I've seen it here.

The moon on pastel pink is a very pretty touch. I've a thing about bridges, probably because they join to places.

Superb, Nathalie!!! The Rhone and the bridge would be high on the list of most people in Avignon, but few would have the talent to capture them in such wonderful light and with a moon placed just where you want it to be!

Beautifully composed and the essence of Avignon.

Awfully hard to expose the moon correctly with anything else around, isn't it?

Jack - I was just lucky and quick. I was in Villeneuve les Avignon when I saw the moon rising from behind Mount Ventoux so I hopped into my car and rushed to the place where I would catch it above pont d'Avignon. I knew it was going to be a matter of minutes. Glad I made it !

@ Bob - Yes I know. I would have loved to catch all the details in the moon - I wasn't able to. Lack of technical skills I'm afraid...

Elle est magnifique ta photo, Nathalie. Great capture !

We sang the song "Sur le pont d'Avignon" in French class when I was young. I can't help but think of it when I see your photos.

As i checked some of your photos that I missed, I was delighted to see that both you and I identified the same objects that we would miss the most: a river and a bridge!!
