Panorama

Here's the panorama from the top of the hill over my village of Beaumes-de-Venise, looking north towards the villages of Lafare and Suzette. The vineyards you see below belong to the Domain de Durban which produces a fantastic muscat wine but also very nice reds and rosé - check out what Kermit Lynch have to say about it. In the distance are the Dentelles de Montmirail to the left and Mont Ventoux to the right.  Picture taken yesterday morning after a short but healthy hike uphill. I'm standing on a very old wall belonging to a castle which used to hold the top of the hill but is now no more than a few ruins disappearing under bushes and trees.

Panorama depuis le haut de la colline qui surplombe mon village de Beaumes-de-Venise, en regardant vers le nord en direction des villages de Lafare et Suzette. Les vignobles qu'on voit en contrebas sont ceux du Domaine de Durban qui produit un excellent muscat mais aussi des rouges et des rosés de grande qualité. Au fond on distingue  lesDentelles de Montmirail à gauche et le mont Ventoux à droite. Photo prise hier matin vers 9h30 après une courte mais dynamique montée à pied. Ici je me tiens sur un mur très ancien qui fait très certainement partie des fortifications du castellas, un château qui tenait autrefois le haut de la colline mais qui aujourd'hui n'est plus que ruines noyées sous les arbres et les buissons.
