Bons baisers du festival

Avignon, place du palais
Each first day of the month is Theme day for all City Daily Photo bloggers and our theme on this 1st of August is 'postcard worthy'. I figured this image would be a good testimony to the famous Avignon theatre festival, which finished yesterday. I took this photo on July 30th 2011, the day before yesterday, during an open-air performance in front of the Popes Palace - tell me if it works for you? Care to see more postcards from around the world? Click here to see thumbnail for all participants.

Great postcard!

It was a show presented by an Asian theatre company and because I couldn't understand the words I didn't quite get what the story was about. Two women competing for the same man I think, one becoming pregnant and falling into prostitution, the other one becoming a nun. That's as far as I got.

I would buy this postcard if I was in Avignon. Love the B & W.

A dramatic shot! Postcard worthy...

It certainly does work for me Nathalie, such passion, looks so dramatique in B&W, excellent postcard.

Yes, a beautiful postcard but from an unknowable location. It's a message from an emotional state, not a place.

nathalie, this festival is always a thrill for me. What a grand photo for you to share with all of us today. I hope that one day I will be able to visit Avignon, meet you in person, but also be able to meet the people of Avignon as well. City Daily Photo has opened this to us all, n'est-ce pas? I am grateful.

One falling into prostitution and the other becoming a nun? I think we have a TV series like that in the USA.

Your photo makes a lovely postcard.

Everyone would read the back of this postcard to wee what it was about.

You are my first visit of the day as I KNEW you'd give us something original and of course you have. Absolute stunning photo. Bravo...

Jilly, Bob, I visited a couple of newsagents and had a look at what sort of postcards they had.I found that artsy b&w photos were well represented.

Since most people can now send a photo of the Popes palace directly to their friends with their iphone or smart phone, standard Popes palace or Pont d'Avignon scenes no longer represent the majority of postcard sales - artsy cards have taken over and b&w do well. I chose to go down that path.

Such abandon !

Almost as good as the shot of the sailor kissing a woman on a street in New York just at the end of World War II...

The postcards are already being printed at the print shop I imagine ?

it's beautiful and really works in b & w!

This does work. It is also timeless. It could be a 2011 post card or it could be a 1950 post card! Very nice.

Stunning. The story is huge - the message is clearn. I'd frame it, myself.

You don't have to ask whether your photos work! If you dare to publish it, it works.

It totally works! So lovely, so French. Reminiscent of old time postcards during the '20s when it was about people more than scenery.
Merci beaucoup pour votre message sur PVDP.
