8,000 spectators

On a sweet balmy night eight thousand spectactors gathered at the amazing 2000-year old Roman-built Ancient Theater of Orange last Saturday to listen to the Spectacul'art choir and solists sing the best songs from Starmania, a French/Quebecois musical from the late seventies. Many of its songs have passed into mainstream Francophone pop culture. In 1992 an English version of the show was created with the release of the album Tycoon.  Listen to a video here : "Stone, the world is stone...". Are you familiar with this song? Did you sing along?

8,000 spectators and by the way, this blog has recently passed the 400,000 visitor mark. Not bad either!

A spectacle in every sense of the word, powerfully illustrated. I'm sure I would have enjoyed the scene but I don't know the music at all. Out of touch with popular music. I'm afraid I prefer unpopular music.

Congrats on your blog's milestone.

Those Romans really knew how to build. To keep the people happy with bread and circuses.

A wonderful place, today better known for more classical music, but this must really have been nice! "Stone... " (and more) performed like this in such an environment must have been a fabulous moment!

This would be great fun. The music would have been terrific, but much of the pleasure would have been derived from being part of the crowd. Hope you loved it!

This must have been sensational. I looked around this arena one time during the day - when it was empty of course. Also the one in Verona. They don't build 'em like that anymore. Great shots. The sound must have been stunning.
