Theme day: graffiti

Chapelle Notre Dame de la Conversion, rue Paul Saïn
A graffiti in golden letters on a church door - and what does it say?
"I believe in God, and him in me?" Avignon has no shortage of ugly graffiti degrading its beautiful ancient facades but this one is so intriguing it beats the lot, don't you think? If it is said that God will recognise his own, will the author of these lines be among the Chosen?
Each 1st day of the month is Theme day for City Daily Photo bloggers and today's theme is graffiti. Want to see other spray paint works around the world? Click here to view thumbnails for all participants. I already showed you the beautiful 18th century baroque facade of Our Lady of the Conversion church in this post.
There's a story behind these photos : the first one I took was the one with the running man, then the close up on the graffiti. That was about a week ago. But this afternoon when preparing my post I found I was only half happy with these shots and since this church is very close to home I decided to go back and see if I could do better. But when I got there I was embarrassed to find a cute teenage couple sitting at the church door. As I walked closer I considered asking them to leave for a second while I took my photos but they unexpectedly embarked on a long and passionate kiss, oblivious to everything around them. So I took a quick snapshot and ran. I don't think they even noticed. So much for elaborate photography, here's to love in France !

As love seems to be around, so might be his believe as well.

Great pictures indeed. Please have a good new month and Friday too.

Oh, the lovers make the image so much better. They may be just teens but they are learning about the divine.

The teens do make the graffiti less ugly.

The kissing couple absolutely makes this post! Funny choice of location to smooch though. And I hate graffiti like this. I just don't understand why people deface beautiful buildings.

Adore this post and knew you'd come up with something fabulous from Avignon. Your tale is a good one for all photographers and I'm so glad you were there for the perfect moment.

I think the young couple add a nice dimension to the photo ~ sort of romantique.

It's really an interesting question. But I abhor defacements of church doors although it is the right place for that question.

I agree, the couple make the image. You find the most delightful things for us N.

As for the graffiti, it makes me insane. It's all over the U.S. and France as well. When will it stop?

I am glad you told the story of your photos. When I first saw them, I hoped that you did not disturb the couple in your top photo to walk up and take the closer photo of the graffiti in your middle photo.

The lovers make the photo but so sad about the graffiti. Why do people enjoy spoiling buildings and countryside????? Diane

The vandalism is inexcusable. Your photo, on the other hand, gorgeous. The first one is priceless. Awesome choice for theme day.

This one is totally intriguing (and your photos). Now that it's recorded beautifully for posterity, I think it's time to clean it up! I also love the one with the kiss!
