Portrait of a dream

Bonheur de lecture, la Charité, CarpentrasI can say that this a natural portrait: no post processing was involved apart from cropping.
All I did was set my camera on time priority and during the 2 second exposure let my camera slide from my model's face to the orange and red table cloth covering the table she was sitting at. I love its Shroud of Turin effect.
I have few opportunities to do portraits. I've never been comfortable with photographing strangers in the street without their consent, I am too shy to ask and my children are now too old to serve as unsuspecting victims (these little critters tend to become independent over the years !) so I'm really grateful to my friends at the Bonheur de Lecture reading group in Carpentras for letting me experiment with portraits at their monthly readings.
After Louis & Jean, Frederic and Lea the accordionist, many thanks to Laure Sultana for being my model this time.

You captured a perfect moment of expression in her face and the wash of color is stunning... More, please...

A dreamy effect, Nathalie! Tres bien fait! I'm surprised how happy some strangers are for me to take their photos for my blog......

Like you I am very shy to ask to take random peoples pictures. Last person I asked gave me a very emphatic no and said I would be stealing his soul.

A suberb effect. You should do more as you clearly have an eye for the original!

Oh Nathalie,
First, I can't believe you are too shy. You seem so natural with strangers in the portraits you post. THis one is absolutely wonderful . I admit I don't understand the "slide" that you mentioned. Maybe an email with details for this old girl??? :)
Wonderful work as we all know you deliver consistently.

Yes, but this has much more passion than the shroud of Turin. (Take the pun or leave it, as you please.) Very creative technique. It would never have occurred to me.

A surpising technique!! (Between us, did you do it by purpose?) Anyhow, the result is really good, so you should try it again! :-)

Nathalie said...

Yes Peter I really did this on purpose, I was experimenting with moving camera images. It doesn't mean I knew what I was going to get though :-)

You always inspire me with your photography experiments. This is fascinating and it was good to look back on your earlier portraits, all of which are beautiful.
