La vigie / the watchtower

This watchtower in the hills above the village of Saumane is manned throughout the summer, when risks of bushfires are high. A friend of ours is part of the team of volunteers who take turns up there. In winter, this fantastic lookout is a joy for hikers. Oh huh, here's another keen photographer!

An amazing lookout point- I can see its value for watching out for fires.

Well worth the hike for this vast panorama. Camera or binoculars? 'Bird' watcher?

Merci Nathalie...

Ah, when I was young my dream was to spend the summer looking for fires from a watchtower, where one lived high above, in the American west. This one looks as if it is a day job, but good enough!

Certainly worth the trek. It's not Salzburg but the hills are alive with the sound of music starts playing in my head when I look at this.

Trying to get back to normal here.

Must be lovely watching from up there. The hike looks worthy of it.
