Fête nautique

Pont d'Avignon / Pont St Bénézet Last Sunday was the annual fête nautique, which as you can guess is all about having fun around boats. The best part of it is making kayaks and canoes available to the public free of charge all afternoon from 2 to 6 pm. The weather was just perfect and the crowds enjoyed the day!

Most people stepped aboard their craft from pontoons placed along the riverside but some brave kids chose kayaks with a fun launch : being pushed along a wooden slide and making a six foot high dive into the water. They loved it!

Because of the crowds I made no attempt to queue for a canoe and just strolled along the river taking photos. In the end I turned up at the pontoon shortly before 6 pm, thinking it would be too late to take a craft, but even though the volunteers were starting to pack up they let me have a go. I was the last to take a kayak and last on the water. It was beautiful!

Nathalie, I think these are some of your best photographs. The last one that looks like a bridge to no where stunned me. I like the way it shows the countryside. The bridge or whatever it is, is remarkable to me as I have not ever seen anything like it in my life. Oh, and too bad you missed one of those kids flying through the air in the kayaks about to hit the water. That must have been a thrill for them. And I am happy that you got a ride in the kayak too.

Beautiful photos! What a great public service!
I love the kayak launch and have no doubt that my boys would chose to do that!

Yes, indeed, I like the second picture much better. I can just see the apprehension and that guy or gal looks to be holding on for dear life. LOL. What a view.

Fantastic photos Nathalie. Now, when you took your kayak, did you do the six foot dive? Did you have a yellow or red kayak? What an absolutely beautiful setting to go kayaking. The river looks quite calm.

Quelle belle vue plongeante !

These are lovely photos; a different perspective on the bridge. That is a novel way of entering the water in a kayak; great fun I am sure.
