Fruit picking

Ile de la Barthelasse
The apple season started about three weeks ago and we are now seeing new season apples on the markets. These two young guys from Poland are only here for the fruit picking season. The conversation was short: one speaks no English or French, the other just a bit of English. They kindly posed for me, I promised I would send them the photo (which I did). There was just the two of them working in this field and, remembering Missaoud alone in his, I figured that large teams are not the way local farmers operate here.

In the next field down the road, nectarines are still waiting to be picked.
I thought that by mid-august all would have been picked, but no so.

I suppose that they offered you an apple? ... and maybe you also "stole" a nectarine? Nothing better than directly from the tree!

Peter, you guessed right!

Catching up - so first adored yesterday's photograph. When don't I love your photographs?

Nice shot of the two young Poles. And how strange there are not more. Somehow I'd have thought that Avignon was too warm to produce good apples - thinking of England and it's great apples - ditto Tasmania, the Apple Isle.

Strange too the nectarines are not yet picked. It's been a strange fruit season this year - certainly in my neck of the woods.

There's nothing tastier than a fresh picked fruit.

I would give my right arm for an orchard where I could harvest my own fruit. Stuff in the stores here is crap!

Great pictures, especially of those nectarines. My mouth is watering in envy!

When all the comments are en francais, I always worry that I am repeating everyone else and don't know it! To translate them all, I would be here all day. Nevertheless, let me just add that I love the top photo because you caught them casually going about their work and they don't appear posed. The bottom photo is just glorious color and lovey light as always.

All I will say is they have a wonderful job to get their hands on such sumptious fruit first hand.

Hello !

Oh, those nectarines looks luscious. And new season apples - a true passing of the seasons. It is now climbing into the low-mid 20s in Sydney - the too-brief spring season!

I wouldn't mind joining those pickers. Nice combination ladder/box holder. Wish we had had such a thing back in 1968 when I picked oranges on a ladder with a big sack attached to me, at the kibbutz.
Lovely fruit pictures.
Catching up with all your posts above and below, and they are all so loely and interesting.
