ESPRIT

ESPRIT - spirit of the season. No green leaves on the trees yet, this doesn't look like spring at all.
And this morning it snowed again in Mainz (Germany), reports fellow blogger jb who lives there.
On Good Friday? Call it totally screwed-up Friday if you ask him.

My local supermarket

My local supermarket : Intermarché Sarrians, open Monday to Saturday 8:30 am to 7:30 pm, Sunday 9:00 to 12:00 am. There's also a Lidl discount supermarket across the street and I sometimes go there too. I tend to use Lidl for basic groceries and sometimes fruit and vegies but I'd rather go to Intermarché for fish, meat and cheese - the quality is much better.

Ventoux again

Over the past couple of weeks we got lots of rain interspersed with the odd day of luminous sunshine. Last Thursday started as a gray day and ended in a glorious grand finale. On my way to the supermarket in Sarrians I stopped on a country road among the vineyards to catch the last  rays of light over Mount Ventoux. A real treat.

What are you doing this weekend? Mine will be full-on : I'll be presenting the 16th Avignon Globe Trotters festival over 3 days Friday, Saturday and Sunday 22nd, 23rd and 24th March 2013. These pictures of an Indian dance performance were taken at last year's edition.  The festival is dedicated to all forms of alternative travel : this year's selection of films will take us pedaling around Bengladesh in a rickshaw, diving under the ice of the North Pole, sharing the life of the Himbas tribe in Namibia, hitch-hiking from Paris to Moscow, riding across Africa on a tandem, walking the St James Way, taking our sketch book around the fantastic landscapes of Yemen or Algeria and much more. After each film, the adventurous travellers come on stage to answer questions from the audience and that's where I come in - I'll be there to facilitate the debate. For me and all spectactors it's a wonderful opportunity to discover amazing parts of the world and meet remarkable people. The festival also includes travel photo exhibitions, conferences, workshops and a photo contest : this year's theme is "the art of siesta" - would you have a photo in your archives that fits the bill? If so, don't hesitate to leave a link to it in the comments.
It's my fourth consecutive year of involvment in the festival and I'm loving it. Find the full program here and watch the teaser here (worth watching, the images are fantastic!)

I'm not a tourist, I live here

Meet our resident pet, photographed from my study, whose window overlooks our driveway and car park. This rabbit is a rare case of chosen lifestyle: it lives around our home completely free. We first caught sight of it about six weeks ago, running before us on the track above the house. It hopped away but didn't seem overly frightened. The following day we saw it again, in the garden this time, and over the next few days it became apparent that it had made our place his home. Now we see him at least once or twice a day either in the backyard or around the driveway. He hasn't got a name as yet but for some reason we tend to think of him as a "he" although we don't have a clue whether it's a male or female. If I leave carrots out for him he'll usually eat them within the next two days but he doesn't seem to need it and I don't feed him regularly anyway: there's enough thyme, grass and rosemary in the garden and the hills beyond to keep him happy and well fed, and I don't want to make him dependent. Although he never lets anyone touch him or come really close to him, he's obviously not wild - perhaps a runaway pet? Anyway he seems to have adopted us and I think he's got a good life: freedom and relative security. Have you ever heard of a similar story?

A walk in the park

I was in Grenoble last weekend and tested my camera in a park in Meylan, the suburb where my sister lives.  Taking photos in such a pleasant environment was easy as.

First steps in music

Vincent Bauza at the bass during a reading in Carpentras of Virginia Woolf's A room of own's own. Hhere are the first photos taken with my new camera, the Sony Cyber Shot RX100. I was seated in the audience in the first row. Low light, no flash, the IA setting (Intelligent Automatic) delivered nothing good. I chose Speed priority at 1/100 for a chiarra oscura effet : amazing clarity and sharpness. I'm impressed.

From the top of Saint Ann's stairs leading to the Jardin des Doms public gardens, a first burst of colour over the city. Temperatures are getting milder but the trees are still bare.

Broc

The antiques shop in rue des Teinturiers, inside and out - a nice place to have a browse. I wouldn't mind getting the mirror, it produces superbly distorted images.

Gris de pluie

 Pont d'Avignon
Rain-laden gray skies have been our lot for the past few days and the weather forecast says it's going to continue over the whole weekend. But the temperatures are mild and you can tell that all this rain is contributing to the burst of spring about to happen. Change is around the corner, yeah!

International Women's Day

Who decided to hang a Barbie doll here? Is it linked to International Women's Day ? My photos date back to March 2011 and the doll only remained hanging there for a couple of months or so but sifting through my archives I figured this was worth a post, albeit a belated one. What do you think of it?

This...

...is what I'm waiting for. Almost there. But these are from last year and I still don't have a new camera.
It's my birthday though, so perhaps something will happen today ?
