In the hills near my home, an early morning walk to catch the hazy light of a warming sun gulping down the fog.
From the almost naked vineyards emerges the now familiar church spike of the little chapel of Notre Dame d'Aubune. We've had more rain this autumn than I can ever remember and it's raining again today. Thick clay clings to your boots if you attempt to go for a walk. This particular plot of vine was replanted a couple of years ago - notice how the new pickets are aluminum instead of wood as they used to be.
Sometimes thick fog eats up the vineyards.
Heavy rains yesterday over the vineyards near our home.
'Cabanons' like this are typical of the region and were used to store tools around vineyards. Most are abandoned today, which makes them an easy prey for tourist photographers.
A few more photos of our hike last Saturday. Above, the views from the hilltop village of Gigondas to the vast plains below. The Rhone river flows somewhere beyond.
By the water's edge, waiting for a boat passage across the Rhône. In France it is no longer unusual to see a man wearing a pink shirt or sweater. I personally love it. Do men wear pink in your country? Would you?
Last Sunday you could have thought it was summer. It's so hard to imagine today. Sigh.
