In the hills near my home, an early morning walk to catch the hazy light of a warming sun gulping down the fog.
Dans la colline près de chez moi, une petite sortie tôt matin pour saisir la lumière ouatée du soleil dissipant la brume.

The grape harvest roundabout

Two giant stone hands holding bunches of grapes mark the roundabout near the Beaumes-de-Venise wine coop: quite a landmark, you can't miss it. But on a foggy day it can be an eerie sight. Will you spot the little chapel of Notre Dame d'Aubune just further up the hill?

Deux mains géantes en pierre tenant des grappes de raisin marquent le rond-point près de la cave coopérative de Beaumes-de-Venise : un repère impossible à manquer. Mais par temps de brouillard matinal c'est une apparition assez fantômatique. Distinguerez-vous la petite chapelle de Notre-Dame d'Aubune un peu plus haut dans la colline ?

Emerging from the fog

 I'd never photographed Notre Dame d'Aubune from that angle before. It involves climbing up a fairly steep rock face and making your way through fairly thick bushes at times. But on that foggy morning I was so determined to catch the chapel emerging from it that I thought nothing of it. I had to wait a long while though - the blue sky was visible above but underneath, the fog just wouldn't clear.

Je n'avais jamais photographié Notre Dame d'Aubune sous cet angle. Il faut grimper dans la collline sur des dalles rocheuses assez raides parsemées de buissons parfois difficiles à traverser. Mais en ce matin gris j'étais si déterminée à saisir la chapelle émergeant du brouillard que je ne me suis posé aucune question. J'ai dû attendre longtemps, pourtant : je voyais du bleu au-dessus de moi mais le gris à mes pieds ne se dissipait pas.

Sometimes thick fog eats up the vineyards.
Beyond this gray wall there's a sharply rising hill and a lovely 12th century chapel I've shown many times on this blog, but you wouldn't know it today.

Quand le brouillard mange les vignes je repense à Brel : Avec un ciel si bas.
Derrière ce mur de grisaille il y a une colline qui s'élève en pente raide et, à mi-hauteur, la petite chapelle de Notre Dame d'Aubune que j'ai souvent montrée ici mais aujourd'hui, impossible de le deviner.

Morning fog

On a cold morning, long waves of fog come hugging the plains, moving in a very slow and eerie way.
Par un matin froid, de longues vagues de brume viennent se coller à la plaine, se déplaçant en ondes très lentes, étranges.

Emerging from the fog

The chapel of Notre Dame d'Aubune emerging from the fog on a cold autumn morning among vineyards where leaves are turning to a variety of soft browns ranging from maroon to gold.

La chapelle de Notre Dame d'Aubune émergeant du brouillard par un froid matin d'automne, couleurs des vignobles virant du jaune roux au rouge violine en passant par toutes les nuances de brun doux.

Still in the fog on the hill across from Gordes, this time looking towards the sun with a fiery flare.

As promised yesterday, here's the village of Gordes emerging from the fog on January 1st. The fog came and went and the scenery changed every ten seconds. Take your time to enjoy the views, I'm taking a short winter break. Back next Friday. Have a great week everyone!

Comme promis, voici le village de Gordes émergeant du brouillard, photos prises le 1er janvier. Avec les mouvements des nuages le paysage changeait toutes les dix secondes.
