Boarding the morning train

Avignon train station - the old Avignon Centre station I mean, not  the TGV station. This one is located right outside the city walls: a brisk walk up rue de la République straight ahead will take you to the Popes Palace in less than fifteen minutes. From here you can take regional trains to Marseilles, Nimes, Montpellier, l'Isle-sur-Sorgue or Orange and thence to Paris. (photo taken September 2013)

Oh, it makes me think of those great French paintings of train stations, Monet in the Gare Saint-Lazare, etc. By comparison, the Avignon TGV station, though a technical wonder, is antiseptic.

Pix from NYC on my place from Friday morning our time.

Two beautiful photographs, Nathalie. The floors of the train station are paved in gold, I see!

I have done that walk in my time as a student in France, and then looked for a cheap hotel. In the days before mobile phones and internet - how did we ever find anywhere to stay, my children wonder!
Hope you are having a lovely Christmas/holiday season.

Beautiful shot! I so enjoy traveling by train and I don't get to do much of here here in the states.

A beautiful photograph. I love trains and train stations. Unfortunately, don't see too many in USA so always enjoy our times in France when we see a train passing, usually the TGV every day.
