I remember the other languages on the notice under the windows in the old, green carriages that used to be on the route south from Lyon: 'nicht hinauslehnen', 'ne pas se pencher dehors' and 'do not lean out of the window'. You could wind down the window, I think, which was very welcome in the absence of air con in the summer.

Brilliant. I expect to travel that route later this year and I would never have noticed something like this.
As an American, I like the idea that the safety exit leads you into the French countryside.
