Red sky? No I haven't turned daltonian. If you look carefully in the shadows at the bottom of these houses you'll read the name of this lively pub on Place Pie. With a huge outdoor terrace and a large screen on which sports fans can watch all live sports events, the Red Sky is a very popular place both day and night. Interestingly enough all its outside signage is in English: it reads "Good Food - Whiskies - Wines and Spirits - Ales and Stouts". I'm not sure at all English is spoken inside, though.
I like the way the large plane trees cast their shadow on the facade, but it won't be long before spring changes that. Despite the cold mistral blowing today, tiny buds are exploding everywhere!

Red Sky... I believe you find the name at a lot of places... Linked to a beer? ... or to the U2 album?
The house, the light and the shadows are really typically Avignon!
bonne Apres midi.
This is a beautiful picture, love the light and shadow.
I found your blog quite by accident, but the pictures you have posted are spectacular. I hope you don't mind a complete stranger commenting, but I couldn't help myself. My hometown in Utah isn't quite as picturesque, I'm afraid!
Nice photo and a promise of spring and warmer weather is nice to see.
How wonderful!
Some day I'm going to make a round trip including: Marseille Aix-en Provence Avignon and Arles. It looks so lovely. When, during the year, is the best time, do you think? Actually I mean when is it free from tourists, lol!
Your photography is sensational, Nathalie. I just love this. Forget the pub (although that'd be nice!) that building with those shadows - heaven!
Why Red Sky? Is the ceiling red? Or is it because of the old weather rhyme: red sky in morning, sailors take warning...?
The shadows on the facade could be useful in a horror movie, they are kind of eerie.
Clueless, why the name? I'm not sure. I haven't been a good investigator, I should have done a bit of research on that!!!
Fredrik, the tourist-free season is winter. The real 'dead' period is January-February (it's over now!!). November and March are pretty quiet too. December is a bit busier because of the Christmas markets.
High season is April to October with a huge peak in July when a monster Theatre Festival fills the city to the brim for 3 weeks. Don't try and come in July unless your accommodation is arranged months before and you're prepared to pay it at a premium!
..oh why did you mention that Mistral? It's pretty bad here too
Very nice photo! Love the shadow on the facade too!
Brrrrrrrrrr!
Ouh ! Quelle photo Nathalie !
Un jeu d'ombres assez extraordinaire ! J'aime beaucoup.
Very clever play on words, Nathalie. Very nice photo too.
I love this shot too. Are there a lot of English speaking tourists?
