My beautiful launderette

Rue du portail Magnanen
-AVOMAT-QUE ? Lavomatique, laundromat. Wash and dry in an hour, open 7 am to 7 pm.
Not the best kept of places by the looks of it but this isn't the upper part of town either (we're at the opposite end to the previous post). Notice the "give way" sign in the upper right corner? In the old town pavements are so narrow that there's no room for signposts so the signs are attached to the facades - not necessarily easy to see up there. Notice also the man pushing the stroller with an accordion across his back? I wonder what he's up to...

Love the accordian man the most. Did he have a baby in there? Maybe his music or his lunch? Who knows?

PS Bon WE Nathalie!

Virginia, the most frustrating bit is I can't remember what was in the stroller - "stuff" I believe, rather than a baby, but what exactly I don't know.

I was ambushed in the tiny street and clicking away as people walked by, trying to catch some nice street action. I only noticed the accordion after pressing the shutter, and the man was gone (I didn't run after him to check :-)))

Now we can start a quiz: what's in the stroller?

Just discovered your blog this morning. What a lovely site, and such beautiful pictures!

Always dreamed about visiting Provence. One of these days. My husband used to live in Grenoble, and he has yet to go back and visit...

Ah, I love this kind of photo as you know. It tells us such a lot about daily life in Avignon.

I find the 1 hour claim difficult to believe, but if it were to the music of the accordeon, I'd hope that it wasn't one minute longer!

Nice post, but really different to the "bugadières" you can find on Cergie's blog today! Spontaneously I have a preference, but of course you have to be practical! :-)

I would like someone to do my laundry!

Wait, no, I love doing laundry. Never mind.

I do love these places though, remember from when I studied abroad in Europe, so handy!

Thank you, Nathalie, for your kind greeting in the hubbub! :)

Great post, as usual. Too bad the guy with the accordian is not stopping to play for the people sitting in the laundromat waiting for their clothes to finish.

When visiting a lavendar farm in the Napa/Sonoma California wine country, I learned that the Latin and French words for "wash" come from the word for lavendar because the Romans used to put lavendar oil in their wash to make their clothes smell nice. Maybe everyone in France knows that, but it was new to me.

Lavande - lavandière, laver...
Thanks David, that's interesting. In fact no, I didn't know that!

Just LOVE the accordion man.

chère Nathalie.
magnifique photo.
