Sailing with the blues

My blogging friend Imparfait Présent (Imperfect present) noticed traces of nostalgy in my previous posts and prompted me to co-write a text with him. The result can be found below. He wrote the first paragraph, calling me to take him on a journey. Surfing on memories of my sailing days, I took him on a mystical ocean passage with quiet night watches, enchanted island discoveries and magic friendships... The third section is his reaction to the voyage. I'll have to apologise to my English speaking readers for not providing a translation. I.P.'s texts are dotted with subtle wordplays which only work in French. I admire his writing tremendously and a poor translation wouldn't do him justice. For those of you can't read French, please resort to my photo, a tagged wall along the Quai de la Ligne in Avignon, to set off on your own journey. Like the characters on the poster (an advert for a play dating back to last July's Theatre Festival) take your little suitcase, step aboard and let your imagination loose...

Lever l’encre

Emmène-moi. Fais-moi voyager. Sortir de ma réserve naturelle. M’énerver. M’emporter. Dire. Dire tout ce qui me déplaît, me révolte. Emmène-moi. Fais-moi bouger. Réagir. Bondir. Vers toi. Vers nous. Emmène-moi. Fais-moi dériver vers tout ça. Emmène-moi. Fais-moi sourire et pleurer en même temps. Fais-moi rêver et me rappeler. Fais-moi vivre. Dire ce qui me ronge. Dire ce qui me fait vibrer. Dire.

Aujourd’hui. Demain.

Terre ! Terre !

Nathalie; please forgive me for taking up a huge chunk of your comments box.
My "schoolboy" French is more a strangled "Franglais" so for a laugh I ran your story through "BabelFish", probably the most incompetent translation software ever devised.

The appalling result follows:

"Take me along at the edge of the land-mark. Take me along where I can pour all that disturbs my nights like one disturbs clear water. All that returns to me sad. All that returns to me bitter. Take me along in these deserts of memories, these abysses of pain. Take me along. Make travel to me. To leave my natural reserve. To irritate me. To carry me. To say. To say all that displeases to me, revolts me. Take me along. Make move to me. To react. To leap. To hustle our certainty. Take me along at the edge of the land-mark. Over there, below. Below my limits. Beyond the words. At the interior of my thoughts. Between all these wounds of passed and these fears of the future. Take me along. Make me surfer on all these waves with the heart. And to build all these bridges. All these bridges of the life, not, of the hope. All these bridges. These hands tended towards the others. Towards you. Towards us. Take me along. Make derive to me towards all that. Take me along. Make smile to me and cry at the same time. Make dream to me and remember. Make live to me. To say what corrodes me. To say what makes me vibrate. To say. To even shout. At the edge of the land-mark. On the way of the soft hour. Take me along, I will leave on what you will give me. Yes friendly, come with me. Until now I always followed, but now I can trace my road. I will take you along. At the soft hour one will take the accommodation ladder, one will go up on the bridge to breathe the salt of the life. You feel like the air of the night is made velvet? Here it is my kingdom. That where the hearts are untied, where the bodies open, where the large things are achieved. Without noise we released the mooring ropes. Not a shout: I like these man?uvres ground well where each one business, interdependent, complementary. Our ship traces a phosphorescent wake in the ink of the dream. In front of us, shining under the moon, the horizon of possible, reducing but always there. I did not light the hurricane lamp, it does not have there a storm. This ocean is peaceful. Our eyes are accustomed with the black, a rich black and chocolate flux with spangles. Where did your fears pass? You saw as the night tames down? The course is easy to hold, we follow our good star. I know the name of the constellations, I will teach them to you: the bridge of the smiles, the chart of tending... The sea rocks our night conversation. It is the hour of the confidences. No vagueness with the heart nor of vagueness with blade, but of the heart-sounds, soul mates. Did you already live of these moments of perfect symbiosis with the universe? When our companions come to take their quarter in their turn, we will sleep, trustful, plays squared by the hammock. The moon will lie down with us, by friendship. Wound into a ball in the heat of the voices choked on the bridge, one will fall asleep of a round sleep. The friends take care, the boat traces its road towards the dawn; our light dreams, without consequence, will be comets as transitory as our wake. It is the paddle with the fingers of pink which will bring back for us on the bridge: a shade of blue silk, ground! Ground of fire, will-o'-the-wisp, cow's milk, pigs, brooded, which this island promises to us seven islands it is? Which odors will accomodate us, frangipanier, dried fish, gas oil spices spruce? We will go to the meeting of these funny of others. Land merriens, false discoverers we are, true people they are, but they do not make just like, it is odd for us. How can one be Persan? We will discover it together. There is all the life to learn... bbb But the sun rose, Schéhérazade must stop its history. It will continue tomorrow and all the other days until there is no more days, it is the history of the men. History of those which live with the sky, which makes bridges in small boats, which godillent out of clear water, which laughs with the whales and smiles to the children, which make fun of the instruction and which tighten you the hand - which awaits your hand. It is easier for me to have a springboard of which to take off. A bridge of the smiles. There are all these hands which are tightened in this letter box. All these hyper bonds which are created. These fabrics which are woven. And these veils which rise. Here. It is that. The islands bind the ones to the others. Hyper islands. There each one on its island but ready to let to us throw ink. The islands bind and me I read your evils as one would decode a chart with the treasures hidden at the bottom of you. All these voyages to c?ur gaining. Nothing is lost. There are always hands which are tightened. Bridges on which one dances the life. Bridges which are built between us. Between you. And me I say to you you. You know what? I know that our ways move away then approach. Distend then tighten themselves with the wire of time. But what imports time. What imports the ways. One does not forget. One does not forget oneself. There will be always a place in the box with the being. Always a moment privileged for a meeting of voyage. An experience feedback. What imports time. What imports the distance. One will be able always to hoist the large fabric and to click on our hyperlinks. Always. Oh! Captain, my captain! Take along to sail me. Take along to dance me. To dance on seas of the sure one. The sure one of oneself. Oh! Captain, my captain! Give me this force. Your force to face the unknown oceans. Without fear and reproach. What do you want that one reproaches you, magician? These days in middle of the night. These black nights transformed into chocolate with spangle? These oceans of soft hour? Your seven islands? My ten grounds? Year of the planet ground. 2008. Then let us sail. Let us sail on the seas. Let us go on the grounds. Nights, days. Hands in the hands. What you want that one reproaches us, oh! captain, my captain? There are hands which are tightened. Hands which wait. And let us seize we them. Today. Tomorrow. All these hands. Throughout voyage. With each corner of the ground. But I have always and still fear that that does not turn Net. 2008 international year of planet... ground"

Of course it loses all the poetry and wordplay (and most of the meaning) but I think you'll agree it is funnier.

Oh my. That translation is fabulous. It is like trying to understand dog barks.

I like your idea though. I also like your photograph.

Lorsque tu t'enflammes !
"Avignon in Photos" devrait devenir "Avignon in Photos et Textes" !
(En français et anglais dans le titre !)

;o)

I really really like the photo you posted, and I tried to read the translation...but I couldn't finish since I am sneaking this in between my working hours (shhh!)...anyway, I love the mood and feel of the door and the graffiti and the picture on the door (sort of reminds me of the illustrations from the Mary Poppins books)

Nathalie, thanks for stopping by! The paddling was pretty straight on the way over, and more like a corkscrew on the way back! :D But we had a LOT of fun.
Thanks,
Wayne

:) I was going to settle for the photos until I saw that Dive took an extra step. Then chuckled and agree with OldManLincoln.

I'm happy for those of you who can appreciate the text and I'm happy to be enjoying the pictures.

Hi Nathalie !
i was lost in festivals and weddings and work there after.

I neither follow French nor did i understand the translation Nathalie. One thing i know that i prefer traveling alone.

My biggest regret is not knowing French. i speak three languages fluently and can understand three other. So very little time to learn one more.
Hope you are doing fine Nathalie

Wonderfully blue in blue. The poster is georgeous and the graffiti repeat not only the colour blue but the form, too.
