The hat and the bridesmaid

Eglise Saint Pierre, Avignon

Continuing on last Saturday's wedding, I sneaked up the spiral staircase to the organ and, smiling to the organist, took this bird's eye view inside Saint Pierre church. The music was roaring, it was fantastic to be up there.

Near the back door through which the afternoon sun poured into the church, I took interest in this gray wedding hat and a very quiet young bridesmaid. Jilly in Menton Daily Photo also posted some great wedding photos this week.

Beautiful photos of a beautiful church! This is one of the things "Louis" misses most about living in France - the beautiful old churches.

One of "Louis's" favorites in Paris is Saint-Etienne-du-Mont.

Grace Cathedral, San Francisco has a replica of the labyrinthe at Chartres.

To those of you who asked, no I wasn't invited. I happened to be walking past when the family and friends started gathering before the church. I stayed.

The church is usually locked; you only have a chance to get inside when there's a mass. I just had to seize the opportunity.

When I noticed the open door to the spiral staircase, curiosity took the better of me and I climbed up. The organist was busy playing, hands and feet, so he couldn't stop me from taking photos. I was very discreet and silent anyway, and I don't believe my photos can do harm to anyone.

Wow!
The bottom photo is absolutely stunning by itself.

Nathalie, your narthex photo is very nice, and I can just imagine the grandeur of the moment being enhanced by the pipe organ echoing off the stone walls. Yum! But ... the detail of the translucent hat is stunning! Wonderfully done and for me, it's those little details captured that make the most memorable images!

Please excuse my intermittent comments lately. Summer (well in some parts of the world) brings much extra work my direction. I'll visit and leave a comment as often as possible, however.

These really are marvelous; the hat, the girl, the overhead view, and the other posts as well. Have you told any of them where to find these photos?

The little bridesmaid who was barely two and a half actually spend the whole two hours of the mass running around the square outside the church but on this occasion she came back in and for a fraction took interest in this leaflet, then discarded it. I caught her in that very brief moment.
