Very nice photo! I love the soft, almost ethereal look, in contrast to the busy-ness of the people.

Great light and shadows.

I am sure that the students think that they have a busy, challenging life. Wait until they face the pressures of a real job in the real world. They will relish the time they were back in school, strolling to lunch on a sunny day in Avignon.

So if it is ten past twelve here, I guess the Rue Campane must be facing nearly due south, as the sun must be about overhead... to cast such shadows to the north. And I shall refrain from saying anything about the lovely curves of the young lady's legs, as I didn't notice them in this photo at all. And I almost always tell the truth...

Dave - considering the pressure that my 17 year old is submitted to here at school in France, I doubt there will be much more when she enters the workforce later in life. I actually believe she works much longer hours than most adults.

A student's life in Australia by comparison is a walk in the park.

On the other hand going out for lunch is an absolute standard in France, even in the busiest of environments. People just stay at work later at night.

I don't envy any highschooler right now, I mean the ones who are really working of course. We keep adding wars to the World History books... and higher standards for math.
The only difference is in the break at lunch time: 20 minutes if I got it right.
J'aime beaucoup cette photo Nathalie.

Quel beau contre jour.

A nice lunch break is important! If the students can do - and afford - this, avoiding the sandwich or hamburger snacks, it would be wonderful! Bravo for the photo against the (so welcome) spring sun!

To continue on the subject of student working hours, I counted with my 17-year old daughter this morning: she attends school 32 hours a week. In addition to that she puts in an average 10 to 12 hours of homework a week (approx 2 hours every day on week days plus another 4 hours on weekends).

I don't think a 45-hour week is fair on a 17 year-old.

In the particular case of my daughter, she comes home for lunch (it's a short 5-mn walk away)and I fix a full cooked lunch for her but she also fits in about an hour of homework into that lunch break.

What a beautiful photo. If one has to go to lycée at least it's nice weather.

Thanks for visiting my blog. You're absolutely right, Veil deserves "immortelle"! My oversight.

You really managed to show us the atmosphere!
A beautiful shot, Nathalie.

Nathalie,
Superb photo! I don't know how I feel about the pressure on the students in France. I do know that the lunch break must be a welcome time and if they can take it at home all the better. I think our schools too lax, but maybe the French a bit too stringent? I don't know. I 'd like to discuss at greater length. Maybe one day we might have time for that?

Most interesting comments on Canadian universities Crederae.

Worth pondering.

And yes Virginia I do hope one day we can discuss this topic together (and many more) while sipping a glass of wine or a cup of tea!
