Theme day: Water

This month's theme is for City Daily Photo bloggers is water. Where else to go for water in but to the Rhône, the river that has fed and modeled the city for centuries? I'm particularly happy with this photo because it shows Avignon's own resident pelican. Pelicans don't normally live in France but this one arrived last summer (no-one's really sure where from) and seems to have adapted well. It goes fishing quite far up and down the river so it is seldom seen, let alone that close. I was hiding behind a parked car whose roof creates the reflection you see in the foreground. When I tried to approach it, the pelican quickly walked to the water, threw itself in and paddled away.
For another approach to the water theme, please also look at yesterday's photo, I like it a lot.

Love this. Is the pelican an April Fool's joke? are there really pelicans in Avignon?

By the way, there are several blogs with April Fool's today. Hyde, Naples and St. Louis. Perhaps others.

A superb photo; not just the pelican, but also the reflections. Wow.

Yes I forgot it was April Fool's Day; so busy thinking about the blog!

All right, I'll set the record straight. The pelican IS an April Fool joke. No pelicans in Avignon, now or ever. Thanks to Photofilter's cloning device for helping me import an Aussie pelican here!

This looks so peaceful. Lovely photo for theme day.

I've just been for a walk in the hills and was thinking about your April Fool's and what it could be - so came back and checked - glad I was right. Quite spoiled my lovely walk! Only kidding...

What a refreshing sight! Yes, that pelican is a cool addition and notice also the calm water with the tree ttrunk reflection.

Great post! HAppy theme day!

I know EXACTLY where that pelican came from, and the Austrlian Customs Service will be in touch soon ;-) (just read your confession above - I hope your repentence gains you absolution - naughty girl!!)

That is a fantastic shot! As always ... now I know how you do it - hide behind the cars! This pelican is something else ... ours don't look quite that colorful!

No wonder we were one pelican short, down at Goolwa, on Easter Sunday, Nathalie.
You had nicked him. We were getting a bit worried !!

Is it the pelican that's the joke? I wouldn't know if Avignon had it's own pelicans if this one walked up and bit me. Of course, there's the bridge to nowhere in the Rhone. Like most tourists, we way.lked to the end of it when we visited your cit

Joli coup double : them day et poisson d'avril !!

Great joke, you did a good job inserting the pelican. I would never have guessed Avignon suffers from a dearth of pelicans; maybe you should start a campaign to introduce them:)

Have a great theme day.

And the pelican came to your party -:)

Thanks for your comment and visit today ... causing me to cruise over to Avignon. What a treat to scroll through your offerings this past month. Wish I had more time to dig deeper, but I've got the rest of the world to visit today. I will be back, though! -:)

Nathalie, you had me going there. The pelican was too large, almost heron size, but I don't know all the kinds of pelicans in the world so, I didn't question it too much. I knew from other photos that the partial bridge was not a joke, and the person on the bench looked natural. So, shopped in a pelican. . .clever woman!
Happy April 1st and happy theme day. Shopped or not, it's a beautiful scene!

Wow, I am glad you set the record straight - because I was thinking I really do not understand the habitat for pelicans! Happy April Fool's day to you! By the way the photograph is wonderful Nathalie! Beautiful reflections, and I really like how the distant arches frame each of the foreground subjects (whether they were actually there or not!)

I was suspicious of your pelican from the start...can you figure out my April Fool's joke?

Delphinium said...

That's a great picture, and the pelican really makes it.

Thanks for your comment on Glasgow DP. Yes we do have sun sometimes - though I seem to remember when I took the picture it was still quite cold (it was taken in early April last year) even though it was bright. What we don't have much of is heat, even when the sun does appear!

Love this photo! Very beautiful!

Michel Benoit said...

Non ?

Michel Benoit said...
