Pont d'Avignon - Pont St BenezetThere was fog when I woke up yesterday so I just had to rush out and take a few photos. The air had that particular stillness that is associated with fog. I enjoyed the walk. To compare with what Avignon's famous bridge looks like on a bright summer morning, click here, you'll go back to the photos I took in August last year. The second one is the most striking: the time of the day was the same (8:30 a.m.) but what a difference the light makes!
Under the bridge I was thrilled to see that the first water irises were out. This particular species grows right by the water's edge. Only a few stalks were in bloom. Note to self: come back in a few days/weeks when the sun is out!

I don't know what it is about fog photos, but I love them! This was already a beautiful scene -- the fog just adds another complementing atmospheric layer. Beautiful!

ooooh, nice photos of the bridge. Don't know which one I prefer. It's curious that the bridge disappears into the distance, and of course it really does "disappear"
The bridge photos are fantastic. And that much fog in the air settles out in droplets of water as you show on the flower. Birds flying through it get soaked. It is fine for ducks and geese and swans but little else.
These are really nice photographs. I hope a lot of people get to see them.
Just fabulous, Nathalie. Fabulous. Never seen the bridge in a photo as magical as this. And what a gorgeous water iris. the normal irises have been out a while. Love to see a water iris. Superb photograps.
These photographs of Pont St Benezet are super. Certainly different and more visually exciting.
Fog or sunshine, the bridge is a beautiful structure! Your photos of both environments are really quite outstanding, too. There is a stillness, as you say, of a foggy environment that is most appealing. Rather than depress, fog lifts my spirit in a quiet, reflective way.
I enjoy pictures taken in fog and these are very good ones. The images are soft and quiet. There is some mystery, particularly in the first one. If you were not familiar with the bridge you might not notice that it ends in mid-river.
Wow! Great photos, i do so love fog though i never seem to get the chance to photograph it

spooky bridge...
Saint-Bénézet may have been the bridge builder and his remains were saved from being washed away in so many of the floods, but you can be assured that your shots are equally impressive. They are superbe, Nathalie.
The water iris will also thank you for your recognition of its beauty.
Here, we would say, 'it takes one to pick one'.
Foto magnifica in excelsis !!
Ben dis donc ! Bon week-end !
Superb foggy shots. The Bridge is so beatifully reflected.
Fabulous photos about this famous bridge and so beautiful Iris, you are so talented.
Happy spring time to you!
I love the eerie feel of fog and the bridge in fog is superb. I also now know why my iris haven't been doing too well. Not enough water! I'm going to pull up all the bulbs and plant them somewhere else.
I love your photography Nathalie - light and shadow - marvellous.
You have made the best of fog. Today I explain how we are making the best of the smell of German pig manure from Hamburg. How do you photograph that?
Oh Nathalie these are beautiful - the fog adds a whole new dimension and depth to such a massive, historical bridge. Loved reading the description and history of the bridge in your 'sunny' images from last August!
I really love those fog pictures. So atmospheric. Fog is a really amazing phenomenon. When I first visited Venice it was winter, and foggy on all but one day. When my pics came back from developing, there were stickers on them saying "Your photos show severe fogging...this could be due to a technical problem with your camera..." !!!
Superbes photos du point. Merveilleuses!
Continue!
Fog and bridge, the splendid combination in those photos. Very nice. And this iris and ducks! great composition.
Thanks for stopping by Synchronizing, Nathalie. I always enjoy coming here for your photographs and view of life in Avignon.
wow the fog shots are truly amazing. and the Iris--it is the best pic of an iris I've ever seen. the plant seems to communicate.
Lovely moody photos! Fog really makes things mysterious and like snow, covers things sometimes best not seen.
Like others, I especially noticed the special feeling of exceptionally seeing the bridge without its usual abrupt end! Really nice and unsual pics of one of the world's most famous bridges!
In the second photo, the bridge looks like a sea creature.
J'adore ! Superbes photos.
