Gone

'I'm in the garden' says the sign. My friend Marielle had a black vasa cockatoo in this cage. It flew away. Now the door remains permanently ajar and the sign appears sad and pointless.

Marielle rescued the parrot several years ago when it fell in her courtyard. Despite posting many ads in the area and contacting the local animal rescue department, she never found the owner - so she kept the bird. Over the years it became quite friendly and she was proud to take it out on her shoulder where it would sit for hours. But about a month ago the parrot just flew away and disappeared amoung the trees. Despite some extensive search Marielle never saw it again. As far as I'm concerned I've never liked seeing birds in a cage; this one was no exception, I thought it had sad feathers. By now it may have died from its dash for freedom but I can't say I regret seeing it in prison: I've sooo enjoyed seeing parrots roam free in Australia! Click here to see what I mean.

White cockatoos are taking over from the rainbow lorikeets here. We don't see many of them at the moment. The bird population keeps changing over time.

That bird definitely had wanderlust; hope it is wily and still alive.

One wonders what became of it.

et comme on dit en anglais- set something free and if it comes back to you it belongs to you but if it doesnt then it never belonged to you.
set something free and if it doesnt come back to you hunt it down and kill it.
hahaha.

I'm confused. Why didn't she just go find the bird in the garden? In any case, I agree with you. Wild animals are best left in the wild.

Bonjour Nathalie,
