Fear of heights?

Rocher des Doms This is probably the best photo I can ever take to give you an idea of how high above the water sits the Rocher des Doms, the rocky outcrop on which the Popes' Palace and cathedral were built. Traces of human occupation on this hill go back to prehistorical times. The location provided a natural vantage point and protection against invaders and floods.
The pont d'Avignon is just off to the left. Across the Rhone you can see the massive crenellated towers of Fort St André, which I showed you in my almond tree and judas tree posts. Do you have a fear of heights ? I do.

Moi oui...

Neat shot!

I don't remember seeing that location on the rocks when I visited Avignon in 2002. Guess I'll have to get my video out and see if I got it on film.

Too bad. I would have LOVED to take pictures from that view point! Although I did take the train to the top of the hill and get other pictures from there :)

It is high, but the railing appears to be high enough to keep the less than determined from falling over the edge.

Chuck makes an interesting point...falling over the edge. Do people kill themselves by jumping off? I am afraid of high places now more than ever before.

In fact Abe and Chuck, this particular place is not the one you want to throw yourself from if you want to die: a terrace below means the jump wouldn't be high enough. There's another location just a few steps higher wich has been fenced off because it was the perfect suicide spot : the cliff there is perfectly vertical....

Jolie composition !

Yes. I'm gulping, repeatedly. This means that this photo is very effective, Nathalie

Lovely curve in the structure and how it towers above the trees and river. The people certainly give a sense of height. And in response to your question, yes I have a bit of fear of heights, and the older I get the more pronounced my vertigo gets!

I'm dizzy just looking! Backing off slowly now to enjoy this scene from a more comfortable distance.
Love this shot, Nathalie,
