Winter grays

Route de Sorgues
In the dead of winter, when Provence doesn't quite resemble what you see on postcards.

I love it at this time when it is quiet and cold - such wonderful atmosphere!!!

It reminds me of a joke I heard in the UK. In a little harbour on the coast of Wales where fog is thick and frequent, a tourist addresses a local fisherman:
- Is the fog going to lift?
- It always has.

Nathalie,
Please don't make me choose. This nice set of "lines" is exquisite. Oh my. THat's why I love your blog. Always something I want to "copy" but can't!
PS we talked about a photo for my wall. Now which one will I choose? too many!!

Hi Nathalie,

Your blog is so lovely. Beautiful photos of your wonderful region of France PLUS dream-trip photos from Venice, Florence ... superb.

Marilyn

Nathalie!

I' just finished writing a post about winter greys today ... it will go up for tomorrow. My photos are not as beautiful as yours...

Nathalie - these are extraordinarily beautiful. I've only seen Provence in the summer. Of course there is a year-long life but those of us who do not live in France (triste mais vrai!) rarely get to see this. I like both but I think the first is enchanting.

Yeah ... well what would postcard makers know?!?! These images DESERVE better than to be tramped onto postcards. They are eeirily gorgeous ... all the first one needs is a black crow ... sheer poetry.

Beautiful photos Nathalie. Paris actually looked a little like that this morning!

Do you find that there are a lot less people in the city at this time of the year?

Two marvellous photographs. I am getting fed up with the gris tho - and the rain and the cold and the wind. In Menton houses are falling due to hillsides collapsing.

You captured the look of foggy mist really beautifully
do you get a good amount of fog? We get it fairly often, different types (low rolling is my favorite) a few times I was stranded in some other city because NYC was fogged in.

Squirrel - We actually got about three days of fog in the past six weeks, which is quite a lot for the region but I must say that it comes specifically from the river (villages a few kilometres away from the river bed don't get it) and always lifts as soon as the sun comes out strongly enough(around 10 or 11 am). I can't think of ever seeing a full day of fog here.

You are right it opens my eyes to my idealised image of the area I love so much. I still adore it though, wind rain, or shine.Exquisite images.

Grey mist, grey stones....love this photo, Nathalie. We were just there in early November. At the time they were dismanteling the merry-go-round.

I laughed at your comment on Jilly's blog about Priscilla.

...lessons from we know who?? For once Provence yields to B&W..a very appropriate choice.

A witty juxtaposition - fields and terraces both waiting for the summer sunshine to return

These are brilliant photos Nathalie. I love the perspective in the one of the square. Oh, how I feel so close when I see where I've been, even if it wasn't quite in this climate! Somehow I think I would adore Avignon even in the depths of winter.

Anonymous said...

Ah oui, j'adore !

Well, I think that it is lovely!

Really like the first photo. European farmers are so particular about their fields.

We had coffee there last summer. Very different indeed!
