Coupe du Monde 2014

Place Pie, Avignon
This year, July is not only about the Avignon theatre festival. The football world cup 2014 in Brasil also draws major crowds in front of large screen TVs at terrace cafés (mostly men - not exclusively but the photo below speaks for itself).  We now know that Germany, after beating France 1-0  :(   and bashing Brasil 7-1 will play the final against Argentina on Sunday. My guess is that most French supporters, still disappointed with our loss against Germany, will go for Argentina, but I may be wrong, I'm no specialist. Does the World Cup draw much attention in your part of the world?

Oh yes! Lots of attention in India as well...esp in the urban areas! The match timings are usually post mid-night so nights usually get spoked :)

:D)

It does tend to gather some attention here- more if your family has come in a generation or two from a part of the world where the game is played a lot.

A lot of interest in the World Cup here as well, but as this is Yorkshire, England, the big event this year was The Grand Depart of The Tour de France!
We have never seen crowds like it!
Everyone had a wonderful time, including all the cyclists!

Some but not a great deal. I don't know a lot about soccer but I enjoy it. My paralegal's daughter is a star college player.

I'm with Argentina on Sunday, mostly because two of the three high-level matches I've seen were in Buenos Aires.

Thanks all for your comments, most interesting to see the various points of view!

As I write, Germany just won the World cup over Argentina 1-0.
My own family was of the opinion that Germany deserved to win, given how well they played throughout the competition.
