Rain & Festival

Rue Thiers, Avignon

After some ten minutes spent looking at the posters and the various shows advertised, these three festival goers under their red umbrella finally selected a play from the Brasilian selection. After some debate over which way to go, they finally set off. On the other side of the street, two Asian tourists were looking at their map before continuing their walk. You can notice in passing the advert for Provença Cola, our local Coke. These two photos were taken just after Friday afternoon's storm. The Avignon festival finishes today Sunday under a bright sun with a strong Mistral wind.

It does look quite damp!

Jilly complained today about the effect of the storm on a festival in Gorbio. I've never been to a city where you could pick a play to see from posters and then just go, without a reservation. Our Fringe Festival works like that, but there is more than theater on offer.

Un sens interdit tout provisoire.

Bob to tell you the truth it's the first time I've seen so clearly people deciding on what to see just by looking at a display of posters. It can also be a risky practice here, especially towards the end of the festival when the most popular plays are booked out. I have no idea if these three people were successful.
