Free hugs

Place Pie, Red Sky
Would you hug this friendly monster? The group of girls giving Free Hugs on Place Pie last Saturday didn't waver, they hugged him. Have you heard of the Free Hugs movement? Did you ever take part in it? I did, in Sydney where the movement started (see the video here), and also in Avignon where I saw the sign on several occasions in the past couple of years. What do you think of the idea?

With two members of the Free hugs team about to light a cigarette, you have to accept that the hug will come with a smokers' breath :-(((

Probably not. What's with all the smoking girls?

I have never participated it this "free hugs" but I do admire very much people that do it.
I have a friend in a such a team and they have done it sometimes in Athens most central places.

He looks like a tattooed Martian! Sorry ladies - yuck to cigarettes! Hugs, non merci.

If it was Nathalie offering a free hug I'd be running to get in line... but from a smoker, no thanks... great idea though, I'm sure there are lots of folks out there who could use more hugs...

bonjour chère Nathalie,

I think these hugging teams are ridiculous. We have them here and there is no way I would participate on either end.

I think that the idea behind them to open up to people on the streets is wonderful. To take down stranger barriers is wonderful. So I would say to have hangouts on the corner where you chat maybe share a good time or a problem and then the hug may grow naturally from that or even a hand shake.

As a sensitivity thing I do like to touch a person I have communicated with but this grows naturally out of the interaction. A hug is part of communication.

No way when I go by these people my answer is no. People have to earn my hug. haha ha.It's like whoring a hug ha ha.

ha ha anyway chère Nathalie we have communicated and I have exposed my heart as usual alors as I have often said

HUGS ha ha. It may only be a cyber one but I feel it counts.

Always interesting topics around here.

belle journée magique.

but you can't censor everyones motives but I wouldn't be a bit surprised if for some people they are sexually aroused-if someone good looking comes by ha ha ha.

yes it is like whoring a hug. ha ha

no way baby.I'm not a free bee. ha ha ha ha ha ha.

well I just watched the movie-it was sweet. Fine if other people enjoy it I am not opposed but non merci for moi.

Bergson said...

Mirae, I've thought of what you said but I don't think the term "whoring a hug" is appropriate. The hugs are free so people aren't buying a hug like they buy sex with a whore.

To me it's pretty close to the "random act of kindness" concept - offering kindness to whoever needs it at the time, for no other purpose than to spread love and kindness around the world.

Nathalie H.D. said...

Bergson, je te reconnais bien là ! :-)))

Kiss me?

I find it hard to imagine Australians as big 'huggers'! It's not for me anyway as I'm not really into physical contact with strangers. A hug is an important thing, but only with somebody who is important to you. I prefer the random acts of kindness idea I think.

chri said...

I was exagerating Nathalie for the sake of humour. I just meant that the hug really wasn't "earned in any way" you just had to walk by and it was yours instead of earning a bit of affection through sharing some kind of conversation.

I think you did a good thing by participating in this because most people have fun and do this in a positive light and appreciate it.

it is just not for moi
HUGS ha ha.

mirae said...

and yes Nathalie you are spreading love and kindness.....
it is just not for moi....

Thérèse said...

Yes of course "free hugs" I would add "with a slight tap on the back"
I am not fond of this movement, I would rather participate to a neighborhood meet... which we do once in a while.

Bonjour! Nathalie,
Nathalie said,
"Would you hug this friendly monster?"

But, of course!

"Have you heard of the Free Hugs movement?"
Hmmm...I think so... Did you ever take part in it?
Oh no, because I have not encountered any "huggers."

What do you think of the idea?
Hmmm...it seems like a good idea!

Merci,for sharing the links...as usual.

Anybody can hug me, smoker or not... - escpecially with the looks of these girls! Yes, I have met a free hugs group once!

I saw in some Swedish news that French people don't hug anymore (the flu); doesn't seem to be true!

Nathalie H.D. said...

Ah Peter, the great thing about being a smoker yourself is you don't mind a pretty girl's smoker's breath :-)

That is a fabulous portrait, Nathalie! I take all the hugs I can get, so when the free hug folks are out, I'm game. And I'm sure the public in Avignon had a positive response to that group of young women. How fun!

Love the idea of free hugs. We all need hugs. A hug to you, dear Nathalie.

There was a trio giving free hugs at my local farmers' market on Valentine's day. I had never heard of it before but Googled it when I got home. What a nice idea! http://artichokesandlemonade.blogspot.com/2009/02/whats-not-to-love-about-puppet-shows.html
