Matching colors

Pont d'Avignon
While "intra muros" (in the old town) the theatre festival goes on, just outside the ramparts nature follows its course and summer makes itself known by more than the intense heat: the lavender is in bloom. I was there very early morning to catch the sun's first rays.

This small triangular lavender field was planted by the city council in order to provide tourists with the ideal Kodak spot. However the many traffic signs on the road just behind are a real eyesore : no way you can frame the whole bridge without fitting in a string of traffic signs. The only viable option is to crop down the image to an arch or two... For gorgeous photos of lavender fields high up in hills of Provence near Sault, click here.

Mid afternoon shot - A purple jacket amidst the lavenders, now that's smart dressing.
Milieu d'après-midi.

Just perfect. The lavender looks like a display of paint brushes.

I walked to the end of the bridge to nowhere during my one visit to Avignon years ago. A visitor can get a feeling of existential terror at the edge.

Great photos of the lavender, Nathalie. Every visitor that ever there was wants to "get into" the lavender. Having smelled the lavender I know why the honey is so delicious! Merci!
