Rounding it up

Place du Palais
The city really switched into high tourist season mode last weekend: not only was there a rose show on inside the Popes Palace, but also a potters' market just outside it, on Palace square (Place du Palais). A great variety of pottery was on display, from dishes and mugs to vases and pots. Here a live demonstration of a potter's work. When you look at both photos, do pay particular attention to the looks on people's faces. Three different ways of showing intensity.

avignon photos
The mother-to-be watches the vase taking similar round curves to her own. It was made especially for her. When it was finished her husband and herself left the imprint of their hands on both sides.

The eye behind your lens is pure genius, Nathalie. I hadn't been to your blog in a couple of weeks and, oh, what a lovely time I had catching up. :)

Great photos! That's not as easy as it looks! We had to learn in high school and several times my ball of clay would wind up on the floor, lol

I have been away for a week. Incredible all that you have "produced" in the meantime! (Don't worry, I have read it all - quickly; will be back.)

How well noted by you, this last remark about the mother to be - and what a good idea by the couple!

Ooooo.....this rather made my toes curl. Nice post and a great "take" on the "eye".

Expressions...yes. Was snapping along the very same lines yesterday at an open cafe. Haven't reviewed yet, so maybe "no show", but you're right Nathalie...it's in the look.

That would be very special to leave your hand prints on the vase. The photography is especially nice too.

So sensual!!!

The potter seems to be extremely skilled - potting is quite difficult. I love your explanation of the woman's expression. M.B has a square piece of clay with the imprint of his younger son's hand, when the boy was about three or four. It is a treasured item.

bises!

Two marvellous photographs. I didn't notice the expression on the 2nd man in the first photo till you mentioned it. Too busy looking at the potter. In the second photo, the hand, the wet clay on the hand, wonderful - that gleam on his fingers. And the expression on the mother-to-be's face and her hands on her stomach, and of course that this couple left their handprints on the pot. How wonderful that is.

Delphinium, glad you noticed the expression of the man in the top right corner - doesn't he look frightening???

When the pot was finished the potter suggested the parents plant a rose tree in it when the child is born.

Wonderful photos, going well with the text. I love the concentrated look of the man that you have captured well and at the first glance I knew by her hands resting on the belly that she is going to have a baby.

Cool photos. I have always wanted to take pottery lessons but I never could find the time or the money to do it.
