Villars in winter

Vilars, near Apt
There is no shortage of days trips you can take out of Avignon to satisfy a photographer's bulimia. Driving on a late Sunday afternoon from Rustrel (photos of that soon) to Saint Saturnin les Apt (remember these images?) the tiny village of Villars caught my eye - a cluster of houses perched on a hill top, a church spike, smoke from burning leaves, wide expanses of dark bare vines, soft hill curves, a branch of golden oak leaves. The most peaceful scene ever. Do yourself a favour, click on the photos to enlarge them, you'll be able to immerse yourselves in the scenery and enjoy the details.

Beautiful scenes!

Hi Nathalie, it is you who are doing us a favour by sharing these beautiful places with us...

I don't know why people need to burn leaves though. Much better to let them decay naturally to make leaf mold to fertilize the garden with.

It looks very quaint from a distance and I suppose it is up close. Surely makes nice photos.

Absolutely beautiful! As for the burning of leaves, I have to say the fragrance takes me back to my child hood and is comforting in so many ways.
I took this drive in spring time. Completely different in winter.
Lovely! Thank you!

Owen - Interesting what you say about burning leaves. My parents used to do it every year in winter in their garden and they always enjoyed the big fun; now the village council has forbidden to burn leaves my mum feels really in need. She enjoyed those bonfires so much!

I appreciate the difficulties to choose the best photo, especially in this case when they are all excellent! May I give my vote for the one on top? It is really EXCELLENT!!!

Love these photos, especially - I agree with Peter - the top one. So beautiful and the burning leaves just made it. I'm with Owen tho on the burning of the leaves but perhaps the leaves were composted and these are remaining twigs? Me - ever the optimist! These photos have a magical quality about them. I just want to BE there. Well I am there, thanks to you.
