Light painting

Rue Joseph Vernet, Avignon Provence is renown for its bright winter skies but the weather has been mostly so dreadful in the past couple of weeks that only street decorations bring the joy and light that we so desperately need.
The swirling lights remind me of Edith Piaf's song La foule (the crowd) where she tells a story of being thrown into a stranger's arms by the anonymous forces of a dancing crowd, only to lose him again after the crowd's wild forces separate them again, leaving her desperate for the man she'd just fallen in love with. Listen to this song in a live version dated 1962 : Edith Piaf, La foule. Want to know more about Edith Piaf ? Click here.

The fate of all of us?

I can't quite figure out how you got these effects with the holiday decorations. Slow shutter and moving the camera, maybe? Ingenious.

I'm thinking the same as Bob - very effective, whatever way you did it!

You've explained how to do this and I try and still have no success. I have a feeling it's when you are in a car - someone else driving? - and then it works. You can see several of us are intrigued. And just to say I absolutely adore these photos. Bravo.

Only one word for this.

WOW!

This goes back to the true meaning of the word's semantic origins: φῶς γραφή

Writing with light.

Just bloody stunning.

Joli filet de lumières. Joli partage.

I guess you could call this another type of light painting: instead of moving a light around to create special effects, the lights stay where they are and you move the camera around.

merci.
