Cat on the barbie

- Hi Honey, what's for dinner? - BBQ cat !
I never would have thought of an outdoor barbecue as a suitable location for a cat nap but when the cold mistral blows, the spot is indeed sunny and nicely protected from the wind...
(note: "barbie" is the Australian short for BBQ)

Lovely, hope he wasn't too greasy afterwards...

Makes me think of the old joke about the Chinese cookbook titled : 101 Ways to Wok Your Dog

Bonjour! Nathalie,
Merci de partager...two beautiful photographs of the same scene
one a contrast in black and white
and the other in...colour.
DeeDee ;-D

Owens comment brought me to laughing out loud.

The color photo is excellent.
My eye immediately noticed how the cat is centered above the instruction label on the unit.

Oi veh!
Reminds me of the cartoon of two old men hunched over a chessboard next to and almost over a fireplace. The caption (from the song) : Chestnuts roasting on an open fire ...

Cat lovers may not have found my caption funny. Glad some of you out there appreciate the humour of the situation :-)

I bet it is nice and warm after someone has cooked on it. And hopefully not too greasy!

Pascal Djemaa.

How hilarious Nathalie. Cats are cats and they sleep where they feel cozy I guess. Great shot on the barbie. ( An Australian term that I think I'll adopt here in Alabama)

Virginia, do you mean Americans don't use the word "barbie"? Do they use the full name BBQ? How odd, I thought they were into shortening and simplifying all words, just like Aussies do.

Having said that, Australians call themselves Aussies but Americans don't call themselves Amies... :-)

Nathalie,
In America “Barbie” refers to a famous blonde hair doll that girls grow up playing with and dressing up into different fashion outfits. Today there is also a Ken doll, so Ken and Barbie can go out together on pretend dates, etc. When my children were little we even had a plastic sports car for Barbie to drive around in.

It can also refer to a grown woman who has blonde hair and lives her life based upon fashion and her attractive looks. This statement implies that the woman has very little intelligence and only survives based upon her physical beauty. Naturally something woman often find offensive.

The term BBQ is often used or simply the word barbeque (or barbecue) refers to outdoor cooking (naturally with BBQ sauce). I hope this helps. Believe me I still don’t understand all the customs or words use in French either. :)

Ha, I also saw your title and thought the cat would be sitting on a Barbie doll. I wondered where you had gotten an Aussie expression. :)

Thanks Drew, much appreciated.

Of course everyone knows Barbie and Ken, every little French girl has had at least one of those.

However Australians seem to have no difficulty using the term barbie not only in reference to the Barbie doll but also to the BBQ. No confusion generated, it's just a matter of context.

How many mischievous boys would have tried to put a barbie on the barbie? God only knows ;-)

Such a wonderful photo, both in humor and composition. So catish of this feline...none of us cat lovers would surprised to see a cat on the barbie. The people I know in US call this thing a grill. BBQ is what you do on the grill. Not to your cat, of course, shoo him off first.

j'aime beaucoup celle en n/b.
Les chats sont d'excellents sujets.

Oh merci Nathalie for your response. I would have never thought of barbie on the barbie. Oh what a result that would have produced. Good thing I raised girls, lol.
